Question:
Help! I'm sick and vomiting!
Hi friends, Here is what is going on with me. Up until a week ago, I have never vomited or dumped, could eat/drink anything (within reason of course, and I don't eat sugar) but now all of a sudden I'm vomiting. I vomited the first time about a week ago, after eating one bite of supper (meatloaf, potato, cauliflower). I have eaten this stuff before, and it's pretty bland so I was sure it was not the food. After the one bite, I get the pain that you get when you eat too fast, and I get a hot tingly feeling in my throat. I start to get that foamy spit-up and ended up spitting into the kitchen sink for about an hour. Then I start wretching and then I vomit. The thing is, I was a little bit sick with a cold, and all that comes up is mucus or snot *gross* actually a lot of it, and it is just tinged with the color of what I ate. There is no food in it. I feel better instantly after that. Then today, the same thing, I have a touch of a cold, and after one bite of cold cereal this morning, the same pain, spitting up, tingly feeling then eventually I vomit. I managed to have a hot cup of tea to soothe my pouch after that. Tonite for supper I ate one bite of baked chicken and one bite of baked potato, and it happened again! Both times today it was just clear mucus. What the hell is happening to me? Is a bunch of mucus running down my throat and getting trapped in my pouch? I am thinking of going to the doctor tonite to see if I have a sinus infection or something, maybe I can get a prescription to "dry me up". I am hungry, but scared to eat. Will this pass? When should I try to eat again? Should I see my doc? Any help or advice is appreciated. My tummy muscles are killing me now from all the wretching I've been doing....sheesh!! Thanks for listening to my rant everyone. — Kim S. (posted on January 26, 2003)

Could you have that stomach virus that's been going around so much this
winter? It might have nothing at all to do with the surgery. I think
you're right that you should call your doctor.

Well, today I woke up with a sore throat. And then it went into a runny
nose. Where it drained down my throat. I began to cough off and on today
well eventually I was throwing up mucus. And I think it may be because of
the drainage too. After I got sick I felt so much better. If I find out
anymore I will post it. Please let me know if you find out anything too.
Best of luck hope you feel better.

How far along post-op are you? I had the same problem 2 months post op. It
lasted about 2 weeks (I couldn't even smell food!) My surgeon told me that
this is common, and it's my body getting used to everything. Not a very
direct answer, but as he said, it ended as fast as it began, and now
everything is fine! He did put me back on a liquid diet until the symptoms
passed, though. And, make sure you get plenty of water (even ice chips)to
avoid dehydration.
