Question:
I am 11 mos post op and recently feeling pain, especially after I eat
Hi all, I am eleven months post op and down over 150 pounds, yay! However, in the last two weeks or so I have been experiencing discomfort and pain, especially after I eat. I have been waking up with a burning feeling, kind of like heartburn, each morning. After ten months of not needing antacids I am again taking Tums and Zantac at least once or twice a day. Then, when I eat I have been getting a sharp sort of pain on my left side below the ribs and I burp a lot. The other weird thing is that lately after I eat, I can feel the food literally moving through my bowels. It gurgles and makes loud noise and I can physically feel it very much. My diet hasn't changed much, why this all of a sudden? Anyone else experience this? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks! — PaulaM (posted on January 20, 2003)

Hi there...do you still have your gallbladder? I had similiar symptoms
when I had gallbladder problems. Let us know...and good luck.

This also sounds like an ulcer. Best to have your doctor check it out.
Also, you should not take tums or other chalky type antacids simultaneously
with zantac and those type pills (Prilosec, Tagamet, Nexium, etc). The
product insert on them will tell you that. If you take them both, they
should be staggered a few hours apart.

Hi :) First...Congrats on your loss!! WTG! I experience the same type of
pain that you are describing. Same place...One night it was so HORRIFIC for
4 hours I felt like I was in labor. It was Christmas eve (didnt want the
kids to wake up without santa :( I had eaten some new things so just kind
of toughed it out. (Kept saying 10 more minutes and I am going to the ER)If
i had not eaten the things I did ( a bite of baked beans, reuben dip,
german potato salad...only a bite of each but WOW), let me assure you I
would have ran to the ER. I also had major burps with the pain. Almost felt
like spasms of some sort.I do not have my gallbladder and i believe that is
on the right side. I will be talking to my surgeon about it soon. I don't
have an answer (lol) but just wanted you to know I know how ya feel! Good
Luck!!

Congratulations on your weight loss! I don't know which surgery you had or
if they took your gallbladder out or not but it sounds like your
gallbladder or ulcers. I have gallstones and have to have my gallbladder
taken out and I had the same symptoms. You need to have it checked by your
doctor. Good Luck!
