Question:
Has anyone else had a below normal temp?
I had my surgery on JAn 9th, and my temp has been 97.1 to 97.7 ... is this normal? Has anybody else had this? I feel great otherwise, I'm just worried about the below normal body temp. Thank you for your help! — Julie B. (posted on January 16, 2003)

I had surgery on November 11, 2002, went to my PCP last week and temp was
97.1. I feel fine too.

My body temperature is always low now. You may find as you lose more
weight that you feel freezing all the time, as many WLS pateints seem to
do. My temp frequently falls below 95 these days. My doc says it is a
result of the rapid weight loss and the body's internal thermostat going
out of whack, but that in time it may readjust. However, I know of several
post-ops a year ot two out who are still cold all the time. If you get to
this point, bundle up, drink lots of warm fluids and get an electric
blanket!

I just came back from the doctor an hour ago and my temp was 97.8. I run
sub-normal all of the time and feel fine. I'm 8.5 months post-op.

Normal for me has always been about 97.6. Folks with fibromyalgia (me)
often have a low normal temperature. Except for the fibro itself, it
doesn't bother me to have a low normal temp. Hugs, Joy

I'm still pre-op but my norm is usually 97.4, has been for a long time. The
docs always tell me that some people just have a lower body temp than
others and I am just one of those people. Gee, I wonder what's going to
happen to me after surgery?

Wow...97 is low? My temp has always ranged from 94 to 95. Mom says even
after i was born...she wasn't allowed to see me until they got my temp up
and when it wasn't going up to a toasty 98.6 they brought me out to her
bundled up in heating blankets galore! I wouldn't be worried! I've never
been worse for the wear. Good luck with your new life!!

My body temperature runs about 94.1. I've always thought it must be
connected to the fact that I have no metabolism to speak of. I'm constantly
freezing and I really can't wait for summer which is sad since I live in
Phoenix where no one in their right mind wants it to be summer.

My normal temp is always around 97.3, sometimes 96.5. If I run a temp of 99
I know I'm sick. I'm always hot though, usually the lower my temp the
hotter I am. I'm looking forward to the "post-op chill" lol.

My temp runs in the range of 96-97. Like others, when it is
"normal," I am sick. Always made it hard to get out of classes in
grade school. "98.6, you're doing fine, go back to class..."
