Question:
How much should I have bypassed?
I am 5'10 and 330lbs. I'm going to be talking to my doctor about how much I should have bypassed. It sounds like the norm is between 100cm and 150cm. Should I lean towards the 150cm since I need to loose at least 150lbs? Thanks! — feminine271 (posted on January 9, 2003)

I would go with 150, my doc did. It is harder on the body, but we have SO
much to lose.

I think that it is up to the surgeon who operates on you. My surgeon does
100 on everyone and there is no choice in the matter. There was a man at
our support group last night who has lost 300 SO FAR!!!

My doctor does 150cm standard on everyone. I was a "lightweight"
BMI of 40 and had 150 bypassed.

I had 157 bypassed and had 190 to lose. (Seems I can only lose 160 of it).
I'd say, the more bypassed the better.

I had no idea how much was being bypassed til I went to my 6 week post op
check up. To be honst it never even occurred to me to ask beforehand. My
Dr. said 2 feet which is aprox 60 cm. My weight loss has been awesome.

most docs dont give u a choice. i recently asked mine how much he did on
me and he said he bypassed 90% of stomach and 250 cms of intestines. but
some docs wontgo that much unless u r really really big. i was 5 6 and
weighed 287. that was 5 1/2 months ago and now i weigh 214. best of luck
to ya
