Question:
Almost 11 mos. out and gaining weight!

Hello all...So, last week I hit my personal goal of 157 lbs, which of course I was ecstatic about, which, of course I shouted out to the whole world. Now, only 7 days later, I have gained 6.5 lbs! I have NEVER gained so much weight in such a short time. I'm not even close to getting my period, so it's not that. I feel horrible, every morning these last few days I am going up, up, up! I'm almost embarrassed to even admit it. WHat's going on here. So frustrated. :(    — PaulaM (posted on January 7, 2003)

A couple of months ago when I was also 11 months out, we went on a vacation to Niagara Falls. And although it didn't seem like I ate wrong or too much, when I came home I was 6 lbs. heavier!! I was flipping out. It was the last thing I expected. It may be comforting to tell you that I quickly lost those 6 lbs. It could have been 5 lbs. water retention from eating too much salt (you know how hard it is to eat real healthy on the road), and I could have gained 1 lb. It could be any combination of different factors, but in the end, I lost it, and in a matter of a couple of days. Could you possibly have gone from watching closely your food consumption, to letting go because you were at goal? And you didn't mention if you were transected, could you possiby have a disruption? Maybe since you are at goal your body is adjusting and readjusting to find that right resting spot. Its not always where we want it to be. Hope you figure it out, its so hard to say what is causing the scale to go up.

Try going on an all protein diet-no carbs-for a week. Increase your water intake & exercise. I would be willing to bet that by the end of the week those few pounds will be long gone! It is just a couple of pounds-something that you can easily control!!!! Best wishes in your process.

I am 11 months post-op tomorrow and over the holidays I gained 3 pounds. I know how I did it, of course, but it was still depressing as I still have 10-15 to goal. So, I went back to basics the day after X-mas, and upped the protein, lowered (not eliminated) the carbs and sugars, increased the water and increased the exercise. I lost the 3 pounds in 6 days and another pound on day 7! Shocked me that it was that easy. Its definitely the pouch tool still working, so I think if you buckle down and go back to basics, you will have the same results.
