Question:
Anyone who had not 65% by gallery at four months see increase in weight loss on?

I started at 412 and after four months am at 323. It sounds ok until I realize by wls planner I am not even on track to lose 65% of my weight and would not even make the first goal of ending up at 246. While I knew I would not be "thin" I was assuming I could manage at least that, now I am afraid I won't even meet the base definition of"success". I am extremely discouraged, I am even too embarassed to go to my follow up with my doctor. I read over and over to excercise more, increase water, get in more calories to break a plateau. I am not really on a plateau just losing slowly. Please let me know if anyone found their weight loss picked up later, or am I doomed.    — Carrie R. (posted on January 5, 2003)

Everyone is different and you also can't go by a chart. It's just an "average". Only YOU can make the difference following surgery. Exercise and eating right is very important. You also need regular follow-up with your doctor to make sure everything is ok with you. Go to the doctor for your follow up visit. I'm sure he will be pleased with your progress. Don't get so down on yourself. You've still got a LONG time to finish losing your excess weight. Good luck to you.

Carrie Hi, please dont beat yourself up. We all lose at different rates. I know how upsetting it is, you and myself will take longer to get to our goal. I started out at 410. My personal goal is 150, and I will try my hardest to get there. I run a BTC support group, and I tell everyone not to become a slave to the scale and not to compare yourself to anyone. As for that planner get rid of it. Your comparing your results to what someone else thinks it should be. You could try weighing yourself once a month ( on your surgery date ) and doing measurements. You need to follow up with your doctor, this is so important for your health. Let me ask you what I normally ask everyone else. Are you getting in your 64 ounces or more of water a day, do you eat 5-6 small healthy meals, are you getting in your protein ? Are you exercising ? Are you getting in your vitamins ? You can only be "doomed " if you let yourself think that way. Your weight loss so far is fantastic, I bet you feel better than you have in a long time. I bet you can do things now that you couldn't a few short months ago. If you need to talk please email me I am here.

Hi! I started out at 426 and now at almost 17 months out I'm almost to 175, but at 4 months out I'd only lost 60 pounds. I lost much more during the second 6 months than I did the first 6 months. Don't worry about what is supposed to be normal and just keep working at it. Good luck!

Carrie Just chuck looking at the weight loss projector and focus on doing what you know you need to do - protein, water, exercise etc. Let the tool work for you and ignore the numbers. If you do the things you should the weight can't help but come off. If it happends you get to 250 and you body levels off there, then so be it. That is one heck of a healthier weight than 412. I will bet you hit 246 with ease - you are over half way there in only 4 months. The window of opportunity is usually 12-18 months but some continue longer just very very slowly. Please just focus on healthy and the rest will work itself out!

Hi Carrie I am so proud of you for your loss. Just remember you cannot worry about yesterday or tomorrow. Take one day at time and be good to yourself. I think if going to see your Dr. will help you then do it. Also maybe check out a support group if it's available in your area. Or start your own support group. Take Care, Rhonda

While I love all the services available for free at obesityhelp...I must say that the weight-loss planner sucks! It generalizes and doesn't take into account body frame, etc. I am 6 feet tall and started out at 424 pounds. In six months I've lost 103 pounds and feel awesome and my and my docs goal for me is 250 pounds. 200 would be wonderful, but we'll be very happy at 250. But even getting to that goal according to the planner I am behind. I should have already lost at least 124 pounds! Am I going to freak about it and worry and start doing things to make the planner correct? Nope. I'm doing the right things now...and I'm not going to second guess it. Hang in there and just remember we are all individuals and you are doing FANTASTIC!

Carrie--89 lbs in 4 months is AWESOME! You need to not invest so much of yourself in the "weight loss planner" or whatever that is. You will get there just follow the guidelines set forth from your surgeon. And by all means go to your follow up appt. It is important and helpful to know how your body is tolerating the rapid weight loss. Turn that frown upside down!!!!

Carrie, Do you remember all the diets that you went on in the past and lost a mediocre 5lbs or less and you tried so hard. If you can chew gum and walk you can loose weight now. You are an inspiration to me. I want to get this surgery so bad. I am waiting to get approved. I was denied by my insurance company. Let's see what happens. My BMI is 52. You are doing good. Just think of the weight loss so far as nice, new, sexy underwear only you know about it. It still makes you feel good. It is a precious secret. .....But not for long.............. Love ya, Nerine
