Hi!, I am a pre-op but, My Dr says not to eat oranges because of the membranes. But, I have noticed that his meal plan is alot more restricted than others. Take care, Mary

My Dr. says oranges are fine as long as we remove the membranes first. I really don't know why, but have followed those orders and have had no trouble.

My surgeon approves of any fruit except bananas. I eat oranges but I try to limit it to one a day - they are full of natural sugar afterall and they do have a lot of calories. But they are good for you - I don't even remove the membrane, but then again, I am over a year post-op. I did remove it early out.

if you can eat them, more power to you! I am coming up on 4 months out from lap rny and still cannot eat citrus...the new tummy is just too sensitive to acids... worst thing i ever tried to do was put a sqeeze of lemon in my water.... it hit my stomach and came immediately back up...

I refuse to believe that any fruit is bad. I eat a lot of fruit and I love it! What kind of f'ed up diet/eating plan are we on if we're scared to eat FRUIT?????!!!

I am so thankful that I now crave fruit for a 'sweet' instead of a twinkie or other sugar laden food. Fruit is full of vitamins and nutrients that our bodies just love. And I always take my iron and multi after eating an orange every day, the vit. c encourages the absorption of the iron, and I need that. The roughage in the orange also keeps me very regular, no more constipation for me. And an orange, depending on the kind (Calif. navel, Calif. velencia, blood, Florida), had approx. 65 calories with the membrane, approx. 45 without the membrane. That is 1/2 - 1/3 the cals of an 8 oz. glass of juice. And is much better than a twinkie or snickers bar. I usually eat 1/2 of an orange after lunch, and the other half after dinner. Sometimes I have 2 a day, but I don't let that bother me.

I eat oranges all the time. I am 4 months post-op. In the beginning all I ever wanted to eat was pineapple and the odd thing was I never ate pineapple before the surgery. I love all fruits and since the surgery crave the fruits over sweets and salts all the time.
