Question:
DOnt laugh, but i was wondering
at what point were you able to cross your legs? I have not crossed my legs gee lets see .....probably since I was a toddler (kidding) but not much older then that. I cant wait to cross my legs, (does this sound crazy..lol). Hey I mean this is a goal for me. I read a lot of people say they just crossed there legs and didnt even know it. Well I guess they could be considered a really dumb question, but I didnt think it was dumb at all. I mean a goal is a goal isnt it? Down 57 pounds since Oct 2, 2002. Hey Rose! Thats not a funny question. I was down about 75 lbs when I
started crossing my legs and whewwwww was I happy. I love sitting down now
just so I can cross them. So if you are crossing them now--CONGRATS! If you
havent, you will get there soon! *Shavonne--4 months post op--down 107

Not laughing here, just smiling a knowing smile of agreement! :) I was
riding in the car when I first noticed I could cross my legs. It was a long
car ride and I was squirming around. Think I had lost at least 60 pounds by
then. My DH did laugh at this though. Or perhaps it was my giddyness about

I think comfortably crossing the legs is a goal of just about all of us!
And its usually among the first ones achieved. For me, it was about 4
months post-op and down 60 or so...it would obviously be different for
everyone. And when you finally do cross the legs, a big ole smile spreads
across the face!

That is one of my favorite things!!! I think it was around 5 months and
down about 75 pounds....I guess it really depends on how much bulk is in
your upper thigh area. I cross my legs ALL the TIME now. Even riding in
the car!! Sitting on couch watching TV....the only thing is I have heard
that crossing your legs causing Varicose Veins....Oh Well for now, I am
enjoying it.

Why is it crossing the legs is a big thing - now that I can do it - and it
not hurt me or I don't look so manly sitting! I had lost about 75 pounds
or so before I could comfortably cross my legs. It feels so good now!

I think I started crossing my legs at about 80 lbs off. My real joy was to
sit with both knees at my chest and my arms around my knees. I had dreamed
my whole life of sitting that way. Your loss is wonderful, you will be
crossing your legs before you know it!

I love crossing my legs but I especially love squatting down and best of

I think it has everything to do with how much excess weight you start with.
I've lost 70 pounds, but at my current weight of 315, I'm nowhere NEAR
comfortable leg-crossing land. It's just a place I've heard about. I'll
have to lose at least 100-115 more pounds to arrive there. But if you are
someone whose excess weight is 100 pounds total, your experience would be
very different.

This is just too cute!! I LOVE when I see somebody else have the same
issues that I thought were trivial or just plain retarded but mean so much!
I can cross my legs (happy dance) and just have to show everybody! It was
at about 40#'s down from 265 (open rny 10-29). I'm now down 53 and feel
just too prim and proper crossing those legs! You'll get there soon and you
will love it just as much as I do. Good luck to ya! :o)

Hi Rose! Still pre-op here, but I too am looking forward to the day where
I can cross my legs! It feels so totally uncomfortable trying to keep
these legs together, particularly when wearing a skirt. I admire this as a
goal and congratulations on your weight loss! Happy New Year!

I am 3 months post op. I was recently in a meeting when I realized I had
CROSSED MY LEGS!! I wanted to jump up and tell everyone - but I thought
they would think me absolutely crazy! I had lost 43 lbs..down from 257.

i do NOT want to rain on everybody's parade but, i must tell u another side
about leg crossing. never in my life was i able to cross my legs so, when i
finally could i was tickled to death, & crossed my legs whenever i was
sitting. a few months ago i noticed something was wrong with my foot. it
had no strength whatsoever & loudly slapped the floor with each step i
took on it. i had to see a neurologist because i was having mini strokes
(aka T.I.A.) & mentioned my foot problem to him. he did an e.m.g. on it
& found that i had severe peripheal nerve damage in the leg. his first
question was...'do u cross ur legs when u sit?' the peripheal nerve is what
is called a 'surface' nerve. in other words its right below the skin on the
outside of the leg exactly where ur legs meet when u cross them. this nerve
is 'insulated' with a fat pad so as not to get damaged being so close to
the surface. due to my astounding 120 lb weight loss in under a year, this
fat pad literally melted away leaving the nerve exposed to injury. i
crushed the peripheal nerve which in turn caused my calf muscle not to work
(nerve impulses stimulate muscles). i am now getting physical therapy once
a week & do exercise at home. altho i have seen some improvement (very
very minor), my p.t. says it will take at the least, 1 year for the nerve
to recover & then i probably will never have 100% recovery. at this
point i will be happy with ANY recovery as i must walk with a cane now. im
sorry for the long post but, i dont want what happened to me to happen to
any of my wls siblings. please be careful when rejoicing in ur new bodies.
