Question:
Why are we counting fat grams?
I was told I could have 10 grams per meal, but not to exceed 39 grams of fat a day. OK I know the fat percentage is going to add weight to us but is the object to cut the fat or to prevent dumping on too much fat? Do RNY's dump on too much fat? — jocelyn (posted on December 28, 2002)

I think every one is different and for those that can tolerate high fatty
stuff might want to count fat grams, I for one cannot tolerate high fatty
stuff. I dont really count the fat grams per meal but I do try to stay
under a certain amount for the day. I know if i went over a certain amount
in one meal cuz i get soo ill....I try not to make this a "diet"
but at the same time have to make sure I dont eat the high fatty sugary
carbs stuff. GOod luck to you

I heard we "poop out" fat. So I don't even worry about fat. (Not
that I crave high fat to often anyway). But I love cream cheese and don't
bother going low fat with it or any other fat product. (I think the carbs
do us alot more harm-but that is my opinion).

I do dump on too much fat....especially real butter. I learned this the
hard way. I don't have trouble with meat, even sausage, or beef but put
some butter on the brocoli or eat some sugar free cheesecake with butter in
the crust or make tuna salad with real mayonaise and I get sick.
If I eat too much fat but not enough to dump on, I get diahrea. Sorry if
this is gross. I just sort of learned from trial and error what I can and
can't safely eat. It is not even so much counting fat grams as it is
knowing that rich buttery things don't sit well with me. I am glad that
meat and cheese and reduced fat mayo are fine..I don't mind skipping the
butter.
