Question:
Surgeons motivation
Has anyone ever asked their surgeon why they perform this type of surgery? What was their motivation? I want to pose this question to my surgeon, but I am afraid I will offend him. Is this something you should ask your surgeon? Thanks — Lisa N. (posted on December 28, 2002)

DO ASK! My surgeon says he does it to help people, quote one of the most
rewarding things he has ever done seeing patients transformed some in
wheelchairs coming back later thinner and healthier. Do attend support
group meetings for awhile and you will understand what this is all about.
The transformation is truly a miracle...

I can't see how that question could be considered offensive. People have
asked me why I had kids! I think it will give him an opportunity to talk
about himself and let you get to know him. I think a personal question is
always a good idea. This is a person that you will have a long and
productive relationship with. I actually think that it is a great question
for all of us to ask.

My surgeon and his wife and another surgeon in his office and half the
staff, all had the surgery. That is good motivation.
