Medically speaking, a stricture is a narrowing of an opening. During the
RNY an opening is made from your pouch to the small bowel. This opening is
very small (about the size of a pencil eraser) and sometimes this opening
can narrow(this is usually caused from scar tissue) and when blocked will
result in vomiting anything you eat or drink. This is easily remedied by
contacting your doctor who will probably arrange for and endoscopy ( a tube
put into your stomach via your mouth) so the stricture can be dilated so
food and liquid can pass through like it is supposed to.Usually the
endoscopy is done with some sedation so you really don't remember much
about it.
