Question:
I have had a cold and bad cough for a week. I am coughing all the time

and the top part of my stomach hurts when I cough which is constantly. Can't see the dr again til tomorrow. Could the coughing hurt my new pouch, open on 8-2-02.    — jojo63 (posted on December 25, 2002)

Hi Colleen! Merry Christmas!!! I too have had a cold and cough for about a week (3 weeks post op). I called my surgeon yesterday who was out until after Christmas but the on-call doc said I could try anything over the counter and it would be safe. I tried sugar free cough drops and diabetic tussin but with no help at all. So, yesterday I went to my PCP and was put on Zithromax and sugar-free Robitussin w/codeine. In just 24 hours I am feeling much better and have had no problem taking these meds. I believe my doc lined my pouch with steel as I have not had any problems whatsoever since surgery. Good luck and give those I mentioned a try. Hope you feel better soon!

I got a cold after I got home from the hospital. I coughed so hard, it hurt. I held a pillow to my stomach when I coughed. I called the doctor and he prescribed some medication for me which eventually helped with the coughing. Boy did that hurt!
