Question:
As a pre-op, I have so much gas. Is is going to get worse after surgery?
As a pre-op, I have so much gas it is embarassing. Is my gas going to get worse after the surgery? Is there anything I can do to control the amount of gas I have before and after surgery. — Lisa N. (posted on December 22, 2002)

Lisa - I can honestly say that yes your gas will get worse after surgery
but it also depends on what you eat. I have found out that when I eat
something (by mistake) that has milk or sugar in it, I get horrible gas
(one that can evacuate an entire Super Wal-Mart)...but I stay completely
away from milk and sugar but there are other foods that will cause gas even
for preops (broccoli is one of them). I take a chewable pill after I've
eaten something that will cause gas and it tends to help. Also you doctor
could also give you a prescription if it's really bad. (08/28/01 60"

I can't say whether YOUR gas will get worse or not.. but unless there is
something physically going on in your body.. (get that checked) gas is all
about what you are eating and how its digested.. I had a lot of gas pre op
because I ate a lot of crap... now I only get it if I eat too much sugar
free stuff made with malitol.. or one of those other things... I get very
little gas otherwise... because I don't eat the food that creates it... Try
beano before meals... good luck

Hi Lisa, I had alot of gas pre-op too, but now I suspect it was because of
my diet. Post-op, the only time I have gas is if I eat too much fat. Alot
better since surgery.

Hi, I had A LOT of gas pre-op, and now I rarely ever have gas. I think I
had it so bad because I drank a lot of coke and ate a lot of greasy fast
food, and I ate quickly. But now I hardly ever have gas. So you might get
lucky and not have to deal with the gas as much! :o) (8/7/02 -90)
