Question:
One month out........how am I doing??
Hi. I had RNY a month ago. I started at 264. I now weight 240. (That's 24lbs gone) I went up to 274 in the hospital immediately post op (fluid? ) but I don't count those pounds as *real* loss. So am I doing OK? The weight loss has slowed right down so I am a bit worried. Yeah, I know it has to, and I know it's normal, but it still freaks me. — Katie E. (posted on December 18, 2002)

Hi, I think you're doing fine. everyone loses at their own pace. I started
out at 265 and had lost around 30 lbs by the first month. I was stuck at
220 for the longest time and I felt very discouraged. Suddenly I lost again
and now weigh 209. (2 months out) It comes off. It really does! I am going
to work on exercising more and drinking more water. That helps the weight
come off, from what my doctor says. Good luck and keep up the good work!!

I was a month out on the 15th of this month and I started at 255 and now
weigh 227, so 28 pounds gone...I know your concern about the slowing of the
weight loss, I plan on starting to walk and lift light weights for my arms
since I haven't gotten the OK to do tummy work yet. I'm hoping that that
will help with greater weight loss. Best of luck to you and I think we are
doing just fine!!!

I had my surgery on 11/18 and have lost 27 pounds to date according to my
surgeon's scale. At my 3 weeks post op mark I had just experienced a 5-7
plateau and didn't lose at all. It was terribly discouraging and at that
point was wrestling with the thought of a mere 16 pound loss for the month
and many thoughts of "Will this even work for me?" Everyone I
talked to was fabulous and encouraging. It will work. The body does just
have to "catch up" and figure out to burn the fat. Drink your
water, get some exercise....and like my doctor told me today and which I'll
have a hard time doing...Weigh only once a week. Hang in there and let us
know how you are doing.
