Question:
Wheat Thins and Popcorn..
I am 4 1/2 months post op. Recently I've been hungry for wheat thins, popcorn and crackers. Are these ok to eat or will they slow down my weight loss? — jojo63 (posted on December 17, 2002)

I eat both occasionally, although the first time I ate popcorn, I knew it
the next day! Dosen't bother me now, as long as I eat no more than two
cups. Crunchy things go down well for me, much better than chewy breads and
such.

They're OK to eat, though they're all carbs, and you should watch the carb
intake. The more you eat, the more you'll want. I, personally, am
addicted to popcorn these days - I think it's a head thing, I can eat and
eat and eat and it's crunchy and it's still not bad for me! My
nutritionist told us she recently conducted an experiment after someone
told her they ate a whole bag of popcorn and she was worried about the
quantity. She popped a bag, then ran over it with a rolling pin
(simulating chewing), then added a little water (saliva), then measured it.
The whole bag was just over 1/2 cup. Interesting!

Popcorn is also a good fiber and good carb. If you have any issues with
constipation, a few cups a day of popcorn will take care of that...wheat
thins and crackers are fine, just watch that you don't have too many of
them. Tuna salad on crackers is a great early post-op meal. As the others
have suggesting, the intake of too many carbs, does lead to the craving for
more.

Go for it! I've eaten all of those since 10 days post-op. No problems!

I eat Wheat Thins and crackers occasionally. I really do love Wheat Thins
- liked them before surgery but love them now. I do not eat popcorn - my
surgeon says NO - it is totally empty calories and a lot of them and you
get no feeling of fullness. I watch the crackers carefully because I tend
to want to eat more when I am eating them.

I eat popcorn, crackers and wheat thins. I hit goal in six months so it
hasn't slowed me down.

I eat popcorn. It's a filler for me.

I try to eat cheese or deli meat with crackers when I eat them or I tend to
eat too many. I like popcorn occasionally when I feel snacky. You can eat a
large amount because it is mostly air and the carb count is not bad at all.
Sometimes I just like to do the hand-to-mouth thing and four crackers with
cheese just doesn't cut it. With popcorn I feel like I've had a bunch but
it doesn't amount to much.

Mmmmm ! Gotta love that Popcorn ! I must be really bad, but on some days, I
just eat pop-corn for dinner...... ya I know no protien, but it's only
every now and then, I try to avoid crackers, as they are higher in
calories, and seems to ball up like bread balls... popcorn is the real
winner here !!!. I must be strange but afte rsurgery I like my popcorn
well done, almost to where the cornels are a little black...... Gross hu
!!, Husband can't stand the smell....
Darn just thinking about it makes me hungry.... Keep the popcorn in the
diet... it'll help and it's a filler when you're hungry it fills you up...
Post op 7 months down 103 pounds, (Still 40 pounds to goal)
