Question:
Calling to make an appt with a new PCP, I have a questions!
I have been given three PCP referrals by my surgeons office. I need to start calling them today with the hope I can see one of them before my 27 Jan 03 consult. My question is this, when calling for the appt do I tell the docs office specifically that I need a PCP that will write a letter of medical necessity? And should I bring my history with me for the appt. I was thinking I would bring copies of my papers I have filled out for the surgeon. I am changing insurance as of 1 Jan 03 and my current PCP will not write a letter, she does not agree with me. Thank you, Lynn — Lynn W. (posted on December 5, 2002)

Hi Lynn -- Since you are changing insurance -- why not sign-up for a PPO.
Under a PPO you don't need a referral from your PCP, you can get a letter
of medical necessity right from your bariatric surgeon. Best of luck.

I think copies of your papers, anything you can give the PCP, will be
helpful. He/she will also want to get copies of your records from your
current physician as well, but you can sign a consent form for that. Susan

Hi Jan,
My surgeon is asking me to get the letter from my PCP, should I question
this? The insurance I am changing to is a PPO.
Thanks, Lynn
