Question:
Post op weight loss
Hi Everyone: I was just curious. I had surgery 3 months ago. Has anyone had mostly 1-2 pounds per week of weight loss throughout their journey, even in the beginning. At 15 weeks postop on Wednesday, except for the first month, I have seldom had more of a weight loss than 1-2 pounds per week. Also, has anyone lost more weight in months 4-8, than in the first 4 months? Thanks guys. Love Grace — Grace H. (posted on December 1, 2002)

Hi Grace; I read your profile and found you are a light weight like me. I
am 5'2, started at 221 the day of surgery. My doc said the wgt loss is
proportional to how much you have to lose. He told me to expect 2-3 lbs a
week but likely 10 lbs a month as average and it would slow some after the
inital few months. We dont have as much to lose as some of our fellow WLS
family. So it sounds like you are doing OK. I am 6 weeks post-op RNY/lap
and have lost 25lbs....hang in there, it will come off ...just more slowly.

Hi Grace - I am 5'5", started at 275 on 8/26/02. I am now about 225
or so. My weight loss has slowed a lot this past month but I am happy. I
am feeling much better physically and mentally. I know you are too. We
are slow losers but we are losing. That is a lot more than I could say
prior to my surgery. And I'm not hungry! Patience has become my greatest
virtue. On the positive side, I think we may have less skin issues than
those who drop weight really fast. Just keep following the doctor's plan
for you, which I am sure includes lots of water & protein. We should
be looking really good by the Spring. Our day will come! Hugs,

Once the constant nausea went away around month 3 post-op, I then began
losing about 1-1.5 lbs. a week. At nearly 7 months post-op, I now lose
about 5 lbs. a month, and have done so since about month 5 post-op. I am
down 87 lbs. now at 7 months post-op. I started at 276 (5'8"). I
don't think the weight loss steps up at 4-8 months, rather it will slow
down considerably. Everyone is different though, so maybe! Hugs, Joy

I started at 260 at 5'4 and my weight slowed down at about 3 to 4 months.
Between July and August I gained and lost the same 5- 10 lbs. I just knew
it was the end. then in September I had lost those 5 lb - 10lbs plus
another 10 lbs. I had my appetite back shortly after surgery. I am now on
another platue and stuck at 170. Its been hell trying to loose more and I
am at a stand still on what to do. I have increase protein by adding
supplement drinks. I have increased water and work out regimn. But i will
not loose hope. I still have until March which i will be a year to loose
10lbs to my goal of 160. Hope this helps and Good luck and God Bless :)

Hi hon, I am among the "snail losers" and same as you only lost
a couple of pnds a week but in the end its all worth it, i beleive its alot
healthier for your body to lose at that rate then faster. JMO...
