Question:
Does anyone know where I can download a legal will?

Can anyone point me to a website that has a free template for a last will and testament? Or maybe someone has one they might be willing to share? Lawyers are expensive and I figure there must be something out there somewhere. Thanks so much!    — Paula A. (posted on November 26, 2002)

You can buy Wills and also Power of Atty at any office supply store. I just bought some at Office Depot for $3.00'ish and you get like 4 blank copies. Just be sure to get them notarized!

I hate to sound like a walking ad; but as an attorney, I can tell you that you need to be careful with form wills. Some are perfectly fine; but the problem with wills is that the requirements for each state vary quite a bit. For instance, some allow handwritten wills, some do not. The number of witnesses you need also varies; as well as who can be your witnesses. Most importantly, the rules regarding guardians for your children are different in every state. If all you need is a Will "just in case" before surgery, it's probably fine, since you're so unlikely to really need it; but I wouldn't depend on it for life. Most lawyers I know charge about $150 for a simple will. In the scheme of things, that's not such a huge deal, especially when it's something as important as the welfare of your kids.

Hi Amy, www.urgentbusinessforms.com has every and any kind of legal form you might need for a very small fee. For example, a Living Will form(accepted by your state) charges only $6.99. As soon as you pay for the form online, it is downloaded to you.

Since you seem to be computer savvy, you may want to invest in "Family Lawyer 2003" this is a great program, very easy to use and worth the investment. I have used it for several things from letters to my childs school to wills and estate planning. It has everything and it can be ordered online at www.broderbund.com.
