Question:
What are binders and where do I get one?
I have not heard of them before. If it is something that will make me feel secure about my incision I will try it. I go in 11/26 for an open. Thanks for your help! : ) — Dawn B. (posted on November 21, 2002)

hi there :) a binder is this big white wrap around type bandage that sticks
together with velcro, very similar to an ankle wrap something like that. i
woke up with one as i carried alot of my excess weight in my tummy. my
cousin on the other hand who was about 50 lbs lighter than i and carried
her excess weight in other places did not wake up with one. it really
depends on the surgeon, your weight etc. personally im very glad that i had
it. it kept things tight and secure and added extra support. when i would
shower or walk around a bit without it i really noticed a difference. i
think it also helped while they are making you cough to keep your lungs
clear to not feel as if you are splitting apart with each cough. best of
luck to you :)

Got mine at the hospital - the nurse put it on when I woke up before I was
allowed out of bed. Your doc can tell you whether you'll get one in
hospital and if not you can pick one up at any medical supply store.
