Question:
can a blood test really tell if you've been smoking?
i heard a rumor that a regular blood test can tell if u have been smoking i was under the understanding only blood GAS tests could tell this..anyone else heard this rumor? / — christine S. (posted on November 21, 2002)

Blood gases check the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide and the pH of the
blood. Not tobacco usage. You'd have to do a blood or urine toxicology
test for tobacco, and it would have to be specific for tobacco. Good luck.

hiya.i had all my labs done last week which included a comprehensive
metabolic panel, lipid profile, complete blood count and b-12 level and
(yes i smoke...please don't nag! lol) and my c02 count came back one point
high...i asked if that was due to my smoking and the doc seemed to think so
... hope that answers your question.
good luck,
