Aloha!! I am a little over 3 months post op and didn't experience much hairloss till the past 2 weeks. All the sudden quite a bit has fallen out. I happen to have a lot of hair, so I am not too concerned about it right now. However, it is very unnerving to brush your hair and have these huge clumps come out. No one else seems to notice the loss as much as I do though. Some folks tell you that you need to increase your protein... Well I happen to get 70-90 grams of protein a day. I drink 3 to 5 liters of water a day. I take my multivitamin and calcium citrate (liquid) supplements as well as a Hair/Skin/Nails vitamin. I use really good shampoos (Biotin/Nioxin included!)....but the loss still happens. I asked my doctor about it and he said that unfortunately, the hair loss is to be expected. There is not really anthing you can do but wait it out. All the products we buy are more for our piece of mind versus being really effective at stopping the hair loss. Don't worry though...from what I have been told, it only lasts a few months. I am fully prepared to lose a few more hairs. Good luck to you!! Hugs, Kathie (in Hawaii)..... after three months, i too, have very thinning hair, but i beef it up with gels and hair sprays, and a little back coming, i was told hair will fall out or thin out 3-9 months after surgery, then come back, go with the flow, go by a little 'hair topper' at your beauty supply house, there's a great one in michigan, 'house of beauty' and 'house of hair' tons of extensions and add on's. you'll be ok, it's only hair, now get rid of the weight too!

I started to lose some hair about two weeks ago, mostly in the shower, freaked me out at first, but it is not noticeable, and I have fine hair (I have it very texturized and layered). Anyhow, this week, my 4 month anniversary, I noticed it is slowing down a little bit, I can also see little shorties growing in. Don't worry about it, there isn't much you can do about it, just get a really good hairdresser, eat your protein and take your vitamins. Hope this helps.

My original bypass w/complications was June 2001. I lost half my hair at the 3 mos mark, and at 6 mos it started growing bck & came in nicer than ever. My repair surgery was Aug 19, 2002 and same thing again. I am at 3 mos now & its falling out like crazy. Looking forward to the 6 mos mark again for it to grow bck. My surgeon told me to use Biotin shampoo this time. Get it at beauty supply stores. I started using it and I can't tell yet if its working its too soon. I use a color spray to spray my bald spots and it really hides them. Only cost 2.99 at beauty supply.

I started losing hair at about 3 1/2 months out, and it's stopped entirely now at 5 1/2 months out. It was only bad for a few weeks, and in my case it didn't really show. Except for the first week after surgery, I got at least 60 grams of protein in (had to use shakes, though), so I don't think protein deficiency caused it in my case. I never used biotin or any other supplements or hair care products to try to fix it -- it just stopped falling out by itself after 6-8 weeks or so.

I am 6 months post op down -106 with no hair loss. I take a protein drink everyday that is supposed to have a special combination of biotin, vitamins, protein, and nutrients to prevent hair loss. So far it has worked for me and I am pretty much out of the water for it. Go to www.protein-solution.com

Bea, I've lost my hair, started loosing it at 3 month post. I went from really healthy thick hair, to thin thin hair... I'm lucky It's still falling out, and I'm waiting till I start to see the baby hair sprout... Hope it's soon, I can't afford to loose anymore... I'm 6 months post down 100 pounds.. Good luck I think it just depends on the person and how they tolerate the surgery... I had no complication, eat a protien shake daily, take all my vitamins .... they say it just happens... Well I say they can have the hair... If that's the deal, (Hair or being healthy) I'll take being healthy.... Good luck !

Hi Bea...my hair loss started at about 3.5 months, and continued up until just recently, at 6.5 months. It's basically stopped now. I would gauge I lost about a third of my hair. I can see the kitten-fur wisps coming in....so don't worry, it DOES come back. I've been taking Biotin daily 600mgs. since about the 3rd month. Can't really say that it has helped any, but maybe. I think most of us lose some hair...it's just the way it goes. Hugs, Joy
