Question:
I'm post op 19 months. Open VBG. My scar has always been bad. I was
sent to a dermatologist and he gave me steroid shots into the scar. Before he did that the scar was about the size (meaning width) of my middle finger. It was raised up and tender. Now it is not raised or red. It is flat but in some places it is very tender and looks like my skin is very thin. It looks like I have spider veins in it. Also my belly button is infected. I'm sorry this is nasty but it is oozing and smells awful. I clean it and I've tried to put alcohol in it. That is painful. I know I need to go back to the Dr. But I want to know if anyone else has had this happen to them. Sorry so long, but thanks for any help. — jmasks (posted on November 13, 2002)

if you even remotely think you have an infection in your belly button by
all means hurry to your surgeon or at the least your PCP! In the meantime,
I'd think hydrogen peroxide would benefit your belly button much more than
alcohol and not be as painful :>)

I had my keloid scar injected as well. REALLY helped it to lie down flat.
But for me, it took several series of shots. Is your BB open at all or is
it more like a yeast infection? Folded over so it's always warm & moist
in there?
