Question:
Has anyone had a problem with ongoing gas?

I am i year potop and continue to have a problem with gas. I have tried eliminate foods, etc., but it continues. If you have experienced this problem, I would welcome suggestions on what you have found to be possible causes and what you have done to help eliminate the problem.    — Jean E. Hi Jean, I am right there with you on this one....have terrible gas pain and gas at almost 13 months post op. Let me tell you what I have tried-maybe these will work for you as they have not for me. Tried isolating food groups to see if one makes it worse than the other-that didn't work. Charcoal Pills, Devrom Pills, Enzyme Pills, Acidopholis, Fiber Pills (thought maybe increasing fiber would help-wrong), chlorofresh pills, Probionix pills, Gas-X, Tums, ...etc. Guess on many of those I wasted my money as they only work on stomach gas, not intestinal. I just added Peppermint Oil to my daily diet and I have seen some relief. I got these online and at Vitamin World. Supposedly peppermint aids in the intestinal processing and I think they have helped a little. As you can see in my profile, I have been having this problem for the last 4 months and it is just awful. Some days worse than others but for the most part....just horrid-to the point where I am afraid to go to public enclosed events...but I hope this will pass in time. I see the GI doc on the 20th for the next level of tests-already had the upper GI and small bowel done, both were fine. Next is the lower stuff...fun fun. Not looking forward to it, but to sum up, I feel your pain. Maybe one of the above remedies will help you out. I wish you the best, and if you find something else that helps please let me know!

the good news is that you are not alone, the bad news is that the gas continues.....I am 2.5 years out and have the most atrocious gas. It is really quite embarrassing. So, you are not alone.

I don't know a solution, but I have the same problem. I am 16 months post-op and am driving my family crazy. I told my husband that it is payback time.

I am glad to hear others are having the same problem. I am 22 mos. post-op RNY and I have gas like you wouldn't believe. I cannot tell you the number of times I have embarrassed myself at work and with friends...GAAHHH. If I don't sound like a machine gun, then it stinks something AWFUL. This happens at work a lot. A guy at work said he's going to nickname me "Tootie" ... he walked in my office after I broke wind and both of us about died...me of embarrassment and him from the smell. I bought Bean-o but haven't tried it yet. HELLLPPPP!!! I have so many embarrassing fart stories I could write a book. All of this has happened after the operation.

For me, the I get a lot of relief from this ongoing problem by avoiding ALL dairy and artificial sweeteners, specifically those in the new sugar free chocolates...maltitol, sorbitol, mannitol, all the ones that end in ol. Dairy and the sugar free sweet stuff just kill me. I'm 18 months post-op and the problem has not gotten better but worse. I'm so happy to be thin that I gladly stay away for the things that hurt me.

Phyzame is a very good gas reliever--comes in a chewable now--or in gel caps one tablet will relieve all pain and noxious emissions
