Question:
Last 35 pounds and eating way to much
I have lost 78 lbs and have another 35 to go but lately all I want to do is eat. I can eat 2 1/2 slices of pizza over a 30 min period. An hour later I am still hungry. All I can think about lately is food. I'm afraid that I won't lose that last 35 lbs. My family is watching and keeps asking me "so how much more have you Lost?" and I keep saying that I'm the same at 157. Please don't tell me to eat more protein and drink more water because I already know that part. What I need help with is how to get myself motivated enough TO eat more portein and drink more water, etc. Any suggestions? Thanks — Peggy D. (posted on November 4, 2002)

Maybe you are just having one of those long plateaus. I had one that
lasted about 6 weeks, and then started losing again. It has been coming
off slowly since then, but I was like you and had only 20-30 lbs. left to
lose. You are nearing the end, so its good that it is slowing down. If
you were still losing 10 lbs. a month, you'd be in trouble in a few months.
Your body decides when you need to slow it down and starts causing you to
be more hungry and able to eat more. Its all part of the process. I've
also noticed that one week before my period I am so hungry and my volume
increases. It happens every month. Then I go through a phase where I
don't want to eat, and can't eat very much. I hope you figure out what
will work for you.

Try 6 small meals a day, keep the quantity to about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food
each time. Make sure you're making healthy choices. If you aren't
exercising, get that started right away. If you eat small meals more often
and make protein the priority, you'll feel better and that will keep you
motivated. This may not work for everyone, but it certainly helped me when
I got as close to goal as you are. Good luck.

hiya...a few things come to mind reading your post:
did you have this surgery for you? or was it to please your family?
have you been involved in a wls support group at all?
are you happy/content at your current weight?
if you are happy/content with your current weight, then i wouldn't worry
about it and if you had the surgery for yourself then i'd think about some
kind of response to your family such as, "i weigh 157lbs now and am
happy with this weight."
the wanting to eat often could be a result of your food choices...carbs
process faster leaving us hungry sooner. ok so you want to know how to get
motivated -- pull out some pics of yourself pre op, write down all the
things you could not do; look at yourself now and all the things you can do
now - envision yourself thinner and what you'll be able to do then. only
you can motivate yourself but do you want to be thinner? stronger? faster?
you have been given a tool to reach ANY goal you set for yourself - you
just have to want it bad enough.
to increase your protein (without the protein shakes) i use Jarrow's Iso
Rich Soy PRotein Powder (avail. online at: www.vitamintrader.com). it has
NO taste and you can cook with it - something you cannot do with whey
protein or soy protein "shakes". it has only 110 calories, 0 fat,
0 sugar, 0 carbs and 25g protein in 2tbls. if you're interested i'll email
you a list of recipes that i've modified by adding the jarrows and bumping
up the protein count without being able to tell. i made some awesome peanut
butter-chocolate chip cookies that i sub 1/2c of flour for the jarrows
protein powder and you can't even tell - high protein cookies, can't beat
that!
i also highly recommend joining a wls support group - if there isn't a
local one, find one online, there are plenty through yahoo and msn.
good luck,
kate

One thing I was taught-it should not take you 30 minutes to eat a meal.
You eat for 10-15 minutes and thats it. Try smaller meals (1 slice of pizza
vs. 2 1/2) and just eat more often, but smaller amounts. Do you have any
protein bars you like? I have found the Balance Gold variety taste like
candy to me, but after I eat a bar, I seem to stay full for a longer period
of time. Also, are you exercising? I found that helps to move it along-if
I slack off, the weight loss slows down. As for your family, I can
relate-I have a hubby who asks me a few times a week, "lost any
more"? Bugs me.
