Question:
What's better than a Halloween candy snack?
Almost the night for the little goblins and ghosties to come calling on us asking for treats. Thought we could brainstorm on ways to stay away from the treats. What's better than a Halloween candy snack? I'm about a month pre-op, but I'm trying to be more active with my family. My answer would be going for a hike with our daughter and having her say, "Thanks for changing into a Mom who takes me on long walks through the woods!" Happy Halloween! Hey! I like your question. I am post op and, not to sound superior by any
means, but I feel like I can resist demolishing the entire bag of mini
snickers this year - for the first time in my life! I am actually excited
about Haloween, TGiving, Xmas, etc. this year, because I KNOW it won't mean
feeling out of control around food. Bring 'em on!!! But since you're
preop and don't necesarily have that newfound "willpower" (it's
truly amazing what can happen when they rip your stomach in half!) I might
suggest giving out mini boxes of raisins or packets of baby carrots this
year...can you honestly see yourself knocking over a child to get to
THOSE??? Or buy some nuts...even if you overindulge you will be getting
some nutrition. It's funny, I wish I had thought of these ideas in the
past, but no, it was all about shoveling the chocolate in, then regretting
it the next day. Anyway, I hope these ideas help, and I hope you get your
date sooner rather than later...

Vicki's answer was great but we can't all do that so this is what I bought
for
the gobblins.I picked up some party favors like little toys
and some pencils and erasers. Then I bought a bag of
single serving pretzels. Healthy and fun.
BOO!! HAPPY HOLLOWEEN

I'm not sure where I first heard this... but I like this saying:
"Nothing tastes as good as being fat feels." (or, something like
that!)

This year I bought items that I know the kids will be thrilled to get and
are of absolutely no threat or desire to me. The leftovers will go to
nieces and nephews at Thanksgiving.

Sam's club has single serving bags (mini's) of microwave popcorn. Great
halloween treat.

I am giving snack bags of pretzels this year. Mothers will love me and
kids DO like pretzels. In my local newspaper today there was a cartoon:
First frame, kids at a door saying Trick or Treat. Second Frame, kids
saying, Of course, if I turn into an obese adult you'll be hearing from my
attorney. It cracked me up!! Happy Halloween.

Why pass out food at all? My kids are tickled when they get funky pencils,
pencil tops, stickers, gum, and of course - CASH :>)

I make sure to buy things that I know I won't be tempted by. I have never
liked certain candies, like Dots, or hard candies etc, so I just buy that
stuff. I also did the mini snack packs of pretzels. If there are
leftovers, the pretzels will get eaten by hubby and I, the candy goes to
work the next day with hubby, where a grateful group devours it! I'm lucky
I don't have kids with their Halloween stash laying around after they
return from Trick or Treating. As long as its not chocolate, I can handle
it.

It's great to be able to do things with the kids now, isn't it? In talking
about snacks, I've come up with something that isn't too bad for you, and
it *feels* like a snack, and is sweet. Take a bag of regular small pretzel
twists. Buy a bag of sugar-free meltable chocolate or white chocolate
discs at your local bakery supply/candy making shop. Melt the chocolate in
the microwave only 15 seconds at a time and stir after each 15 seconds.
Dip 1/2 the pretzel in chocolate (or the whole pretzel if you want), let
the excess drain off, and lay on wax paper. Put in freezer for 5-10
minutes and enjoy! I've also done this with pecans and cashews. For more
ideas, see my Profile Page.
