Question:
Does anyone take Paxil? Has it slowed your weight loss down at all?

I had RNY in January 2002. I took Paxil before surgery, and I still take
it (though I've cut my dose in half). I can't say whether it's slowed my
weight loss because I don't know what I would have lost if I wasn't taking
it. I've lost 125 lbs. so far--not as much as some people, but I'm not
complaining.

I took it pre-surgery and noticed it would keep me from losing, but I've
read of others who have had the exact opposite effect. I can't see the
harm in trying it for a month or two and seeing how it reacts to your body.
If it slows it some but not significantly, I'd say it's one drug that's
worth a slight slow-down (if you have anxiety or depression). Was worth
it's weight in gold to me!

I was on Paxil pre-op and still am- and have lost 85 lbs in four months. I
tried to stop, but found I wasn't ready to go without. Go for it!

My pcp told me that Paxil increases your appeitite. He said with this
surgery I was limited to how much I could actually take in, so, If my
hunger increased the surgery would limit me. I have been on Paxil for 4
months for panic attacks. I am down 65lbs in 6 months. The weight lose is
now down to 1.5lbs a week. I have another 60lbs to lose. I'm very happy
with the progress. Good Luck.

I take 20mg of Paxil each night. I had lap rny 6/4/02 and am down 69lbs.
I'm happy with my weightloss and I'm happy with my Paxil---I dont feel I'm
at a point to go without it. Hope this helps!

I had Lap RNY sugery May 29th and I have lost 80 pounds. I don't think the
Paxil has slowed my loss down, but I am going to try to slowly get off of
it. I am now taking 10 mg a day instead of 20 mg. Paxil can cause you to
gain weight, but there is also other alternative that your PCP can offer
you to not cause weight gain.

I have to tell you that while on Paxil I did gain weight. It was getting
off the Paxil that was the worst part. It was the worst 6 weeks of my life.
I was slowly weaned off, but still suffered severe withdrawls. I will never
recommend Paxil to anyone. My husband can't get off it. He's worried that
the withdrawls could affect his job. If you aren't on it, don't go on it.
If you are, I wish you the best luck in changing to another pill, one that
won't cause weight gain, or hinder weight loss.
