Question:
Clothing sizes

Hi Everyone: Can someone refer me to a site that tells you what you must measure to be in a certain women's clothing size? I would like a chart from sizes 4-18. I have seen them before, for example, you must have measurements of 38-30-38 to wear a size 14 dress. I don't know if those measurements are correct, but you get the idea. Because height can vary, the measurements would be a true indication of size. Love ya all and thanks. Grace H    — Grace H. (posted on October 28, 2002)

Grace, here is one, but remember every clothing company is different. In fact, I have two identical pair of pants from the same company, in the same size. The black ones fit fine, the blue ones are too small. Go figure. http://www.womensuits.com/sizecolorchart.html

I've been shopping for clothes online lately, and have found that most clothing sites have their own size charts. They do vary from company to company, but I'd suggest going someplace like Spiegel.com and looking at their size charts.

the first problem is that there is no longer a gold standard. You need to find the measurements for each vendor. Sorry.

Yes, everyone is right. They recently had something on the news about this. It showed that each designer or manufacturer has their own size chart, some with actual size 12's called 8's, to make women feel thinner. :))

I don't know that a chart would help. The same size made by different companies fit very differently. I can get in an 18 jean in 1 brand and a it takes a 20 or a 22 in others. My "normal" size teenagers can wear a 6 from the GAP and need a 8 or 9 from somewhere else. Lots of people say 10 pounds for every size....that is not true in my case either. I am down 92 pounds and down about 6 sizes. You really just have to try everything on !!!

Try www.speigel.com or www.jcpenny.com. I knoe both of these have those charts in their catalogs so they are sure to have them on their sites...
