Question:
Goal weight
Hi Everyone: Just wondering. What is your height and personal goal weight? Have you been successful in attaining that goal? For those who have recently had WLS, do you feel your goal is attainable? Love Ya - Grace — Grace H. (posted on October 21, 2002)

Grace - I started at 277, surgery was on 3/28/02. I now weigh 168 with
only 21 pounds to go til my "chart weight" goal of 147. Oh yeah,
I'm 5'7" tall. I never thought I'd get to that weight, but now its
just around the corner! Lisa

I had open RNY on Oct 16, 2001. I am just now a year post op. My starting
weight was 230 pounds. I am 5'7". My personal goal was 135. Charts
say I should be at around 147. I HAVE PASSED MY GOAL!!! Yipee!!! I am
now at 129 pounds. Can you believe it??? All my labs are perfectly
normal. I couldnt be happier. Let me just repeat it, because I LOVE to
say it.....5'7" and 129 pounds!!! :)

My starting weight was 289, I had surgery July 9, 2001, and my weight now
is 145. I have lost 144 pounds. My goal weight was 150. I could not be
happier.

I am 5 months post op. I started at 268 at 5'8" and wearing a size
24. My goal is 160-170. I am now 171 and wear a size 8. I have lost 97
pounds. So I either have 1 pound or 11 pounds left to go depending on how
you look at it. If I never lost another pound I would be thrilled. At a
size 8 I look really thin. My picture is outdated I wore a size 12 in the
picture.

Hi Grace. I had RNY on October 24, 2001. I am 5'3" and I weighed 276
on the day of surgery. My chart weight was 130. My surgeon wanted me to
get to 150. I am now at 120 and have gone from a tight 26 to a very loose
size 4. I feel that any goal is attainable as long as you adhere to the
program. I have excerised regulary from day one. I also have followed my
doctors eating plan. I do not drink carbonated drinks, even if they are
diet. I stick to water as my drink of choice. I could not be more pleased
with my "tool".

I'm 5'10", 45 y.o., and large-framed (size 12 shoes, down from 13). My
goal weight was 165 and I'm at 162 13 months post-op. I am currently
wearing a size 6 skirt, and a 34B bra, down from size 24 bottoms and 42DD
bra a year ago.
I really do think that the main thing that's helped (besides the WLS, of
course!) is that I try to stick to "healthy" stuff, with some
treats now and again, and I exercise for an hour four days a week, three
days cardio and one free weights.
Hope this answers your question!

I'm 32 and 5'2.5. I had surgery 7/17/01 and have lost 136 lbs. I started at
282. Even though my current weight is 146 I am still in 12/14 because I am
so short. I'm a little bummed about it and really am struggling to loose
another 15. I am pretty sure I can do it...I make better food choices than
I ever have in my life and exercise at least 5 days a week. I will get
there....slow but sure. My goal weight is the low 130's and size 9/10. -Kim

I am 9.5 months post op from a proximal lap RNY. I am 5'4" tall and my
goal weight is 150. I am currently at 155 and holding steady. I started at
280 and have lost 125 pounds. I currently wear a size 12 jeans and a medium
shirt. I set a higher goal for myself because I knew I would need
reconstructive surgery. I do not want to go below 135 and my PS said that
is should be about wear I land.

Hi there. I had Lap RNY on 4/1/02. Started out at 276 and am now at 184
(loss of 92lbs). My surgeon wants me to get to 150, my PCP 140 and I would
like to be around 126. I'm 5'1". Since I eat pretty good and
excersize regularly AND I'm only 6 1/2 months out, I think I can make my
goal but I do think it'll be slow going from here on out.

I'm 49 years old, 5'6", and 9 months post op tomorrow. My starting
weight was 350 and I'm now at 196 with a loss of 154 pounds. My goal
weight is 175 pounds, with my doctor's goal weight of 130 pounds. I'm
happy where I'm at but would love to get down to about 150 pounds.

I'm 44 y.o., 5 ft 5 inches. I had surgery 5/13/02 and I now weigh 234. I
don't think I'll ever reach my goal weight. In fact, I'm on a constant
plateau. I do exercise quite a bit and I'm not flabby at all, but to answer
your question, unfortunately NO.

i am 5'8" tall, started at 337 lbs(siz 26/28), and am now at around
220 lbs(size 16/18/xl). This is not my goal weight, which would ideally be
around 160 lbs. I am ok where I am, but would like to get down below 200
just for my peace of mind. Due to "life" I had stopped some of my
really good excercise and eating habits. I have once again begun to
practise them again, so maybe I will see some loss. I am sure that my goal
of 160 lbs is attainable, but realistically I do not know that I will get
there.

I am 48 years old, 5'9 & weighed 350 when I had my rny about 21/2 years
ago. My goal weight was 165; my personal goal was 185. I held a weight of
about 175 for over a year, then had a TT & lost another 15 to 20 pounds
in the aftermath. I now fluctualte between 155 & 160 and have held this
weight for about 6 months now.

Hi. I had Open RNY on 5/21/01. I am 5'4" and started at 215 wearing
size 20 pants. I now weigh 120-125 and wear a size 2-4. I think it was
easier for me because I started as a "lightweight".

Hi I am 31 years old, 5'6 tall, started out at 253 lbs, and had an open RNY
Novemebr 12 2001. My personal goal weight was 150 lbs. Now at 11 months I
am down to 115 lbs for a toatl loss so far of 138 lbs. IT IS POSSIBLE SO
DON"T GIVE UP :)

Hi Grace. My height is 5'4" and my ideal goal is 130 pounds but my
realistic goal is 140. Last of all I would "settle" for 150. I
am shooting for that realistic goal of 140. I think it's definately NOT
out of reach. If I get down below that and closer to the ideal then that's
great too. I feel very confident about reaching either or both though. I
am not quite 3 months out yet and have lost 63 pounds. I am now at 218 so
I have about 80 pounds more for that ideal and I am by no means ready to
throw in the towel yet. Keep striving. I think that the majority of
overweight people lack self confidence in themselves. So I plan on using
this tool, not only to take back that healthy body that I deserve. But
also that self confidence I denied myself for so long! I KNOW I CAN DO IT!
:)
Ok, anyone else need a little self-affirmation? Just follow my lead!

I started out at 321lbs. and in 4 weeks, I have lost 46lbs. My personal
goal is 160lbs. which would put me losing 161lbs. I am 5'5 and I feel that
any lower would be too small for me. I am definitely
confident that I will reach my goal within a year or so. I am hoping I will
have lost at least 80lbs. by Christmas, but I understand about those damn
plateus!....Karen (lap RNY 9/20/02)

I'm 5'2 and I've never weighed less then 130. Therefore, I made 130 my
goal. My current weight is 125. So yes, it is VERY possible to make your
goal weight!!! I've done it in less then a year.
