Hi, I am not a coffee drinker, but, I will tell you that there is a Starbucks on the corner of the Hopsital I had surgery at and once a month when we have support group, I see alot of post-ops drinking many varieties of starbucks.

Yes and no. A 6-8 oz. sweetened coffee occasionally probably won't kill you, but kiss those super-sized 32 oz. coffees goodbye. They'll make you VERY sick. Decaf with Splenda seems to go down fine, but Starbucks is way too rich for our post-op tummies.

My guess as a pre-op is that we won't be able to drink the sweetened hot or chilled coffee drinks since they're full of fat and sugar. Regular coffee with sweetner and skim milk will be ok is my best guess. Bummer, huh? Maybe someone "on the other side" can inform us differently.

I am 11 months post op, and I enjoy Starbucks daily. Order all drinks with skim milk, have a "tall" size instead of vente and as far as frappacino's I indulge once in a great while, so yes, eventually you will be able to enjoy Starbucks, but maybe not for the 1st couple of months following surgery. I remember crying before my surgery because I thought I would never be albe to have my Starbucks "fix" again!!!

Unfortunately, I can drink most coffee drinks except Frappuccinos--they have WAY too much sugar. I have found that subbing s/f syrup really cuts down on the sweet. Remember that everything is fine in moderation! I was a barista for a few years in college and you would be shocked how much sugar is in specialty drinks. YOu may or may not be able to tolerate the 'sweet' of the drinks. It's only been this month that I could stand a mocha! If you can stay away from the stuff, you'll be better off!

I LOVED Starbucks pre-op and was one of those favs that I knew that I would miss. At around 6 mo I decided to indulge in a latte. I dumped! Then I discovered that they have sugar free syrups. My local one carries the vanilla sugar free syrup. With that substituted, you cannot tell the difference! My usual order now is: Sugar Free, Decaf Vanilla Latte. Yum!

Once you have been off sugar for a while, the sweet drinks may not taste as good to you. I have found that I now only need to add whipped cream to mine. It has enough sugar to sweeten the drink for me. With nonfat milk, it is not a bad treat. I do occasionally lust after the mocha coconut frappuccino, but I know it is way too sweet for me and I wouldn't enjoy it. Not to mention the aftermath! =0

I, too, used to love Starbuck's sweet drinks. I had the RNY in January, and I don't dump. The other day I ordered one of their new coconut frappachinos, took two sips, and realized I didn't want it after all. WAY too sweet. Like everybody says, our tastes tend to change after surgery. One disappointing thing I've found about Starbucks is that the ONLY sugar-free flavoring they have (and I've asked at many different stores) is vanilla. Bummer.

hiya! i found post op that the thought of a frappucino which i used to live on made me gag -- the sweetness! but what i get now is: tall frap with only about 1" of cup filled with frap, the rest (instead of frap mix) is regular coffee then they blend with ice and no whip cream. it's not as sweet but i think it tastes perfect... you can also make your own at home with chocolate whey protein, coffee, ice and cream...just blend and viola! kate open rny 6-14-01 pre op: 268lbs goal: 135lbs current: 126lbs

I don't really know about the drinks at Starbucks, but I was a Dr Pepper Junkie, and since surgery, I HATE the taste of any soft drink. I have tried sips and it is really nasty tasting to me. I swear your taste buds change so much. Now I only drink "Water" and "Decaf Coffee". So you may not even want the Starbucks after you are post op.

I am a Starbucks Junkie...but as a post-op I have cut out the sweet drinks. I order two decaf shots over Vente ice, add about an 1" of water, 3 packs of Equal and add Half & Half to the top. YUMMY!!!! Ok so its not a Frappacino but it is close to one! Plus you are saving money on the drink!!! Two shots are about $1.75 and a Vente Frap is about $3.85!!! I love it! Makes me feel like I am having a treat!

At about 6 months post-op, I tried a white chocolate mocha drink from Starbucks. Since I seemed to tolerate sweets fairly well-the food kind- I thought i could handle the drink kind too. WRONG! 4 gulps later, I had the worst dumping episode of my life. Never again. Now I get a decaf coffee at Starbucks and thats it. I've asked for the SF syrups but my local starbucks does not seem to carry.

I'm almost 6 months post-op & I still go to Starbucks, in fact I had one this morning!! I was TOTALLY addicted to Grande Non-fat mochas with Carmel syrup for a few months, but I'm tying to cut down to 1 mocha a week. I can handle the sugar just fine, but my weightloss was plateauing like mad when I consumed the extra 320 calories every day. My wedding is planned for March 1st, so my weightloss is more important than the fabulous mochas at Starbucks!! But one mocha once a week won't kill me!!!

It will depend on your dump-trigger. I had a non-fat decaf latte with sugar free vanilla syrup and I had an instant dump fest. I watched the girl like a hawk when she was making it so I know that it was made correctly. I have no idea what it was that made me sick, but I know that I will never touch another one again! I was a Starbucks junkie pre-op. I loved everything about Starbucks...the drinks, the music, the couches and the sweets. Oh well! :-)
