Question:
This may sound odd, but I had some 'personal' questions to ask . . .
anyone out there who is LDS (Mormon) and had this surgery. I had a couple questions I'd like to ask about some specific doctrine questions relating to this surgery (don't worry, not deep theological questions, just basic how does WLS change a couple things). If you could email me, I'd love to just get 3 or 4 quick questions answered. — Hilary C. (posted on October 10, 2002)

Hi, I'm LDS and just had surgery. My husband would love to help me look
into your theological questions. I will try to e-mail you.

I'm not LDS personally, but my surgeon is. I bet he'd be happy to talk
with you about it too. His name is Dr. Kenneth Warnock in Wichita Falls,
Texas.

I'm LDS and I live in Hutchinson, KS. I had open RNY on 3/6/02. I talked
to my bishop briefly about the surgery ahead of time and received a
blessing the night before. You can email me as [email protected]

I too, am LDS. My husband was against my surgery, but not for religious
reasons. He was just afraid something would happen to me. I'm now at goal
having lost 135 lbs. and I'm healthier than I've ever been and I give God
the credit for blessing my surgeon's hands and watching over me. God has
surely blessed my efforts. I've had no complications, never once vomited,
and my labs just came back again...everything was excellent. My pre-op
health issues are all, repeat all gone. No HBP, diabetes, arthritis,
incontinence, fibromyalgsia, just feeling great and very happy. Feel free
to write anytime...good luck and God Bless.

Hi everyone! I'm the original poster of this question, and I really
appreciate the responses I've gotten here, on my surgery page, and through
personal emails. I know that my Heavenly Father wants to see me healthy
and happy and living my life, and I know that right now, this surgery is
the best way to do this. I sometimes worry I'm showing 'disrespect' to my
body by having it permanently changed, but I know that God wouldn't look
down on me taking advantage of the latest and greatest medical techniques .
. . just like my mom having one of her baby's C-section, my aunt having a
lump removed, my Grandpa having open heart surgery, etc . . . that's the
great thing about living in the time and place that I do, that there are
all these medical wonders that can help us live longer and healthier than
ever before! Take care everyone!
