Question:
Did your WLS effect your family members weight?
I was wondering if anyone found that their WLS effected their family members either by encouraging them to lose weight - and enabling them by supporting your WLS diet Or did it cause them to over-compensate and add pounds because they were eating "for you". My DS and DH are both 15 to 20lbs overweight (a mere pittance I know).. and I'm hoping my weight loss will help them too! :) — Anne R. (posted on October 8, 2002)

It has definitely affected my boyfriend. It all started when we started
dating and moved in together and I was doing all the cooking. First of all
he was not used to eating 3 big meals a day and lots of carbs (spaghetti,
rice casseroles etc.) Of course he put on weight over 4 years through no
fault of his own as I passed on my horrible eating habits. Since the
surgery 12 weeks ago he has been doing most of his own cooking and I have
lost 68.5 pounds and he has lost 50 of his own. To say that this is the
best thing that has happened to the both of us would be an understatement.
I always felt guilty for his weight gain because he had never had a problem
before he met me. Now he is getting back to his normal weight and looks
fabulous. I think it is harder for someone who has never been overweight
to suddenly be, then someone who has never been thin because they have
nothing to compare it to. I am very proud of both of our successes and we
definitely feel much better and life is more fun now than it was before I
went in.

My husband lost 16 pounds. He now lifts weights and works out everday.
Kinda funny he never cared about working out until I lost just about a
hundred pounds and all of his friends started saying how great I looked.
Maybe a little jealousy is a good thing.

My dh has gained weight because he eats all my leftovers. He just started
a diet last week. (I now weigh less than him for the first time since I've
known him :)

Now that I look "good" my husband is more conscious of his
appearance. He is losing weight and bought a bow flex to "buff
up". LOL My 14 year old daughter, on the other hand, has gained quite
a few pounds. Seems like the more I tell her to watch what she eats, the
more she eats. She knows the hell I went through (see my profile) with this
surgery and I have told her she needs to get a grip NOW before she ends up
having to live an obese life and having to end up having surgery. She needs
to lose about 35 pounds at this point.

It's effected my son to the negative. He sees my weight-loss as the easy
way. I've tried hard to show him how difficult this has all been, but it
falls on deaf ears. My daughter is learning from watching me and is
watching what she eats and how much, but seems to understand that she has
to eat or her fat-burning engine (metabolism - she's only 8 lol) will not
run. And my dog is getting fat from my leftovers!
