Question:
ANY SUPER MOBIDLY OBESE...
make it to goal? I am 5'9" and started at 382lbs. In the last month I have lost all of about 2lbs. I am terrified that my weight loss is over. I had surgery 3/11/02 and now weigh 264...for a loss of 118 lbs. I know that is fabulous, but I want a shot at my personal goal of 175. I eat between 500 and 900 calories per day. Exercise at Curves 4 times per week, and get in ALL my water everyday. I also supplement with protein shakes. Have any of you, whom were 400 lb pre-op, made it to goal? If so, did you have months like I am having now? How long did it take to make it to goal? I was so hoping to do it within a year. Thank you! — Sandra C. (posted on October 8, 2002)

I started at 440 2 months ago and during month 2 only lost 16. What a
crock! Month 1 was awesome, but I have been down lately due to this
monumental slow down. I figure it has to start again....

Well I started a few pounds heavier than you and an inch shorter...I'm
around 245 or so now and 8 months out. I didn't lose anything at ALL in
June (after a loss of 30 pounds in May) and I lost almost nothing in the
whole month of August, then 15 in September. My loss is very much sporatic.
I find that when I vary exercise or skip a few days and then hit the gym
with something new, I kick start myself again.

If you are 7 months post op you might want to try increasing your calories
to between 1000-1200. Sometimes
"starvation mode" kicks in and won't let you lose.

Hi Sandra: I am probably the least knowledgeable of all to answer your
question, since I am pre-op and all I know I have learned from reading
about others on this God-send of a website, but it seems to be as if you
have hit a plateau. These seem to be quite common. The weight comes off
slowly or maybe not at all during them, but once you pass them, you again
lose weight. Don't give up and continue eating and exercising as you
should. It's probably a good idea not to jump on the scale often but
continue to think of how wonderful you are doing and how great you feel in
your success! God bless you and keep up the good work!!!!! Linda

I started out at 436 and 7 months post op have lost 124 lbs. Still
loosing about 3 lbs a week, but it is coming off consistantly right now.
I focus on protien and stay completely away from refined sugars.
I do admit that I occasional eat sugar free treats. But I don't obsess
about calories or pushing to strenuous excercise. I think some may get
too caught up in calories. You too are about 7 months out and
although may get discouraged if you aren't loosing as fast as at first,
still keep up the good work, and don't get discouraged.

I started out at 543 lbs in July 2001. In the 15 months since my surgery I
have lost 200 pounds and am still losing. I have slowed a lot. Now only 5
to maybe 8 lbs a month but I am not giving up. Go to
www.mygastricbypass.com this is a woman named Sue and she was a great
inspiration for me. It is hard for me still I fight grazing everyday but I
am determined to do it and keep losing. Best of luck and don't give up.
Work with the surgery. The best advise I can give you is stay away from
sugars and eat healthy, I have definately learned that changing my eating
habits is a major key to what I am losing. Take care.
