Question:
Liquid Protein
I had lap rny on August 21, 2002. Since that time, I have been using the liquid protein from GNC. I have had absolutely not problems with this. However, I noticed that it was higher in sugar and carbs than the liquid protein from vita4life.com. I ordered the honey flavored liquid protein from vita4life.com, and was so anxious to try it. Unfortunately, after sampling three packets, I noticed that I become extremely nauseated afterwards. I made sure to try this three times in tea, water, and crystal light, just to be sure that the nausea was not from something else, but it wasn't. Has anyone else ever had this problem? I love the liquid protein. It is so convenient. Could this have a different effect on me if I try it again next week or so? Thanks. — Grace H. (posted on October 7, 2002)

It sounds like the sugar. Check out Real Meals. It has 60 grams of
protein, plus calcium, vitamin b12, biotin (to keep your hair) and about 40
other vitamins and nutrients. Plus it tastes really good. The wesite is

I take Amino 222, I got it at the GNC at the recommendation of a girl that
worked there and was also post-op. You take 3 tbsp daily and it's 22g
protein (you could take in more if you want). It has a strong taste, but if
you mix it in with the red Crystal Lite, it is hardly detectable. It is
also full of Amino Acids which seem to cut my appetite down (not that it
really needs any help!). Hope this helps you.

Many of the collagen based proteins are not buffered and can be very
irritating to the stomach lining. There are very few actually
"complete" colagen types. Cheramino is not a stand alone
protein,. If there are other protein sources in your day, such as whey,
then it is a good "adder". Amino 2222 is not complete. To rely
on this alone is the same as nothing at all. Optimum makes fine products,
but they do not claim this IS a complete protein. In fact, they will tell
you it's an "adder", meant for athletes to take with other
proteins. Mind you, I USE Cheramino as one of myu 30g servings, but I know
that taking this as my only source of protein would see my protein levels
drop gradually. Sci Fit Amino Infusion 5000 DOES claim to be a complete
protein, not just a collagen adder. I'd feel better if I see a year's
worth of labs from a 5000-only person, so I also use it as another adder.
I might suggest you hook up with a good whey protein you can shake up in
water. Milder on the pouch, much higher level of protein absorbability
(whey is #1, collagen is not even ON the list), and much, much cheaper to
use. Collagen is the lowest quality protein (same stuff as gelatin, pretty
much) for the highest price, because of its convenience. Like I said, I
use several sources myself, but tuck into the back of your mind that
collagen is not the best choice for your only supplement.
