Question:
HAVING STOMACH PAINS EACH TIME I DRINK WATER
I am 14 days post op. Each time I drink water, when it hits my stomach, it hurts something awful. I went to the doctor this past Friday and I had a upper GI done to check for blockage/leakage all was fine. I was able to drink tea and gatorade that seemed to sooth my stomach, now that is starting not to work anymore. I'm thinking I had bad seafood. I had crab legs on Wednesday night and I woke up with the pain and since then I have not been able to drink water. Is it possible that I had gotten bad crab legs? I'm currently taking Prevacid and the doctor also told me to take Malox twice daily. Any comments would be appreciated thanks — TEDDI T. (posted on October 7, 2002)

Hi. It is possible that you had some bad seafood, but what you are
describing aren't typical signs of food poisoning. You have to drink water.
You may want to try water at differance tempatures. If you drink cold
water, try water at room temp. Hope you feel better. Oh, and don't hesitate
to bug your doctor about it. Don't just ignore pain.

I had my surgery 8-28 and am just starting to tolerate plain water.
Everytime it hit my stomach, it hurt. I drank lots of everything else.
Broth, Crystal, tea, etc. I just keep getting at least some in. I found
real cold was the only way I could tolerate it. Now, I am fine. I just
have to watch how big a swallow I take with water. This too shall pass.
Good Luck!

Listen, I had the same problem. The thing here is that water hits your
stomach very quickly. I don't know why it is that we can drink anything
but water and it's ok. Believe me, I had the surgey 7/30 and I'm just
staring to tolerate drinking it. The hurtsing feeling will decrease with
time. Just remember to drink slowly and drink, drink, drink.

Please ask for an upper endoscopy (egd). Water problems could mean a
marginal ulcer & no other tests wil show it until it perforates, and
you don't want to wait that long. A scope will show it now, soon (if
that's what it is), and pills will fix it fast. Don't wait around, OK?

I was just telling the girl I work with that I can FINALLY drink water
without pain. I'm 6 1/2 weeks out. I could drink anything else just fine.
It was just water that was a problem. My nutritionist said she hears this
alot. Just sip until it starts feeling better. I had pain as it went
down, and I would feel nauseous for a short time after I drink it. THis
too, shall pass. Everything is fine for me now. I'm a happy camper. . .
most of the time. lol.

Hi I was having a problem with water also, I called my surgeon as it turns
out I was only drinking ice cold water and that really bothered my stomach.
I tried it without the ice and it was so much better
