Question:
Pre-op MILK diet?
I have seen people on here talk about a milk-only diet their surgeons put them on prior to surgery. I can't seem to find it in the library, so has anyone got info on what it is and why it's used? Thanks. — Katie E. (posted on October 2, 2002)

My surgeon is having all of his patients be on the skim milk diet prior to
surgery. How long you are on depends on your BMI and liver. The reason for
going on the diet is to shrink your liver so that the surgery can take less
time and there is less chance of nicking the liver or other organs. It is a
very difficult diet; all the skim milk you can drink in 10 minutes three
times a day plus one at bedtime. However, I lost 27 pounds before surgery
and my lap ryn was under 4 hours which is pretty short for someone my size.
If you look under "skim milk" in the library you'll see a longer
post about pros and cons from me or click on my name to read about in my
journal. Cheers! Katherine
