Question:
I would like to hear from folks that have had the Lap RNY Proxmial and Distal?
I have read many articles about the two different approachs. I am intreseted your thoughts and experiences on these varations of the RNY WLS. Also, I have understood that the Doctor has control in the size of your new stomach 1-2oz, 2-4oz or 4-6oz...How do they deciede on what size stomach to make and how for to by-pass proxmial vs distal??? I had lap surgery 7 months ago today,I don't knwo if it was proximal or
distal, but my surgeon told me my pouch was 2 ounces, actually he held up 2
fingers and said this is waht it looks like, he told me the size in
cennimeters, don't remember what it was though, I was wondering myself
which one mine was distal or proximal.

I had lap rny distal in May. My doctor only does distal bypassing 150cm or
about 5 feet. He also only does 1-2 ounce pounch. It will expand later
on. I am now four months post op down 92 pounds, I have gone from a size
24 to a size 8. The lap had a really quick recovery time, I was at the
mall within 5 days and back to work within 2 weeks. This is the best thing
I hae ever done. My only regret is not doing it sooner. Check out my
profile.

I had a medial 1oz pouch. I know I can eat more like 4 oz, but that's ok.
Medial is more than proximal, but less than distal. Too far distal and you
have major absoption problems with vitamins and nutrients. Also, if you eat
fats with a true distal you will have to RUN to the bathroom shortly
after...although you will lose faster.
