Question:
Those of you that experience facial hair...what do you take or do to get rid of it?
I've had facial hair forever. I've noticed that post-op it's been a little worse I don't know if it's because hormones are all out of wack or what. Anyhow, just wondering what you do or use to get rid of it? I do shave & pluck but I'm getting sick of doing that. Is there any med. that you take or way of removing it that works for you? — Allison T. (posted on September 23, 2002)

I generally pluck or have the chin hairs waxed. My doc also prescribed
Vaniqa, which slows the growth of facial hair - it just slows the growth,
doesn't stop it completely.

Electolysis! I just began treatments, it will end up being about 4 visits
and about 160.00, but I think it is worth it!

Hi. I have had to deal with this problem (chin and underneath) for the
last 15 years. I've plucked (daily) for nearly all that time. I, too,
just began electrolysis. I've decided that enough is enough. My
electrologist told me that plucking and waxing are the worst things to do
as they can distort the hair follicle, as well as stimulate it so that the
hair it grows is coarser as time goes on. BTW -- re previous poster: 4
treatments seems like awfully few unless it's a very minor problem. Only a
fraction of all of the hairs are out at any given time. They grow in
crops. It's conceivable to have 15, 20 or more crops total. Plus,
depending on the method used, the "kill rate" is anywhere between
50-70% of hairs treated. So, sometimes the same hair may have to be
treated more than once. JK, RN

I have used Nair facial cream, and it works pretty well. It doesn't smell
too bad, and isn't too harsh. I also recently got something called a
personal groomer, which is a kind of electric razor made specifically for
female facial hair. It just takes the fuzz off, so you don't get
"stubble".

I started using Vaniqa (prescription) more than a year ago and it has
really helped my facial hair problem. I get it on the internet at
www.1stonlinepharmacy.com; they give you a virtual "dr's appt"
and you can order it.

I had really bad facial hair, coarse hair on chin, neck, cheeks and lip, I
had three sessions of laser hair removal and now it's about a year later
and I just have a couple of strays here and there. I imagine I'll probably
need another couple of treatment eventually to make it final, but I'm
pretty happy with the result
