Question:
BAD SIDES TO THIS SURGERY?
I AM VERY INTERESTED IN HAVING THIS SURGERY... BUT I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS. 1. I WANT TO HAVE AT LEAST ANOTHER CHILD WITH-IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS, IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE MORE CHILDREN AFTER THE SURGERY? I REALIZE THAT THE SURGERY ITSELF DOESN'T EFFECT YOUR REPRODUCTIVE, BUT WITH YOUR STOMACH SHRINKING AND THE AMOUNT OF INTAKE PER DAY... WOULD IT BE SAFE FOR ME AND FOR THE BABY? 2. I HAVE CHRONS DISEASE, WOULD IT HURT OR HELP MY ILLNESS? ANY AND ALL INFO. WOULD BE SO MUCH APPRECIATED. THANK YOU! — Lisa G. (posted on September 16, 2002)

HI, I know that it is safe to have a child after surgery but they do
recommend you wait at least 12-18 months before you get pregnant in fact it
is safer to be more thinner than overweight to have a child less problems
w/ pregnancy,I want another child also I already have a 12 and 13 yr. old
but I am 31 and I guess I will start all over again in about 2 yrs. if
everything goes o.k. I dont know about chrons though sorry. good luck, and
god bless,

It is safe to have a baby after wls, but my surgeon strongly urges us to
wait at least 2 years! And to use two forms of birth control in the mean
time. There is a really nice picture of our surgeon holding a baby by a
postop on his home page at: www.alaskabariatriccenter.com....just scroll
down to the bottom. About the Chrons Disease, I am not sure. I have Lupus
and it hasn't affected me one way or the other yet. Good luck! (open RNY

I've spoken with several people over the past few months who said that
surgery has had no effect on their Crohn's disease.

Having a baby is no trouble, often surgery turns folks on and omen who
loose weight often get very fertile. Some who couldnt because of PCOS get
pregnant very easy. <P> Chrons runs in my wifes family, our surgeon
sometimes recommends the Lap Band for Chrons patients.

check out this website for pregnant WLS women.
[email protected] Women talk about all their experiences while
pregnant during and after WLS. There is someone on Obesityhelp.com that
was pregnant the day she had WLS and did not know it. I can't remember her
name but If I find her again I'll let you know and you can read her
profile. The only thing that went wrong was that she was told she was
going to have a girl and had a boy! But he was healthy and her pregancy
was without complication!
