Question:
Can I drink ice water after?

It will be hard to just sip water cuz I love it, but will I still be able to drink my ice water or will that be a problem? thanks.    — deespol (posted on September 2, 2002)

It shouldnt be a problem. BUT some folks early on are in ketosis making everything taste YUK. During this time sugar free koolaid tasted great masking the yuk water taste. A few have a easier time drinking sipping luke warm water. But thats unusual. After awhile most drink ice cold water just like pre op, I know I did.

I loved ice water before surgery. After, it hurt my pouch if I drank anything cold. I am 10 months post op and can now drink ice water without a problem. My water use to have to be very cold, so I thought not having it that way would be a problem but it was not. I just got use to room temp. I did not want the pain the cold caused to I got use to no ice real quick. It taste real good now (the ice that is). Lisa Marie

For the first month or two or three, I could only handle luke warm water. I have always been a water, nothing but water drinker. Now, at 6.5 months, I drink cold water out of the fridge with no problem. I can drink large quantities in short periods as well.

I could not stand ice water as a pre-op, but it's ALL I could drink as a post-op! My stomach craved ice water. I seem to be one of the exceptions, so you should remember that everyone is different and there are no guarantees.

All I wanted post op was ice water. The colder the better.

Hi: I had a hard time with anything that was cold for about the first 3 months...my lifesaver was hot tea with milk in it...it soothed my new tummy and I got in some protein with the milk in it....To this day I still drink about 6 cups of hot tea per day and I only use one tea bag for all 6 cups so it gets weaker as I go...Less caffeine that way..I have deleated the milk now and just drink a couple of glasses of really cold milk per day for more protein...everyone of us is different...my post op friends couldn't stomach anything hot...go figure.....just trial and error for all of us...
