Question:
Anyone using low-dose aspirin
While everyone knows after rny aspirin is a major no-no, has anyone been told by their doctors that low dose (81mg) is ok for stroke prevention? I'm wondering if that low a dose is still considered a bad idea. — scottiemaam O. (posted on August 27, 2002)

My surgeon, who told me he takes a St. Joseph's Children aspirin, said it
would be OK. You should still direct this question to your surgeon and/or
dietician, though.

My surgeon said NO! However, heart attacks kill both men and women in my
family. I am much more afraid of that then any pouch damage. So I think I'm
going to start again.

My PCP wanted me to start on 81 mg of aspirin a day, but my surgeon said
NO! Too much risk of ulcers. The surgeon suggested Plavix, a prescription
blood thinner. My PCP agreed. I suggest you talk over your situation with
your PCP and your surgeon and make the most informed decision from there.
