Question:
If you had Irritable Bowel Syndrome (severe Diarrhea) prior to RNY, is it
better or worse now? — Carol V. (posted on August 26, 2002)

Carol - Yes, I had IBS (severe diarrhea) prior to surgery and I'm happy to
say that following my distal RNY 08/28/01, I don't have diarrhea anymore.
I'm actually on the opposite site now with being more on the constipated
side. There was only one time that I did have severe diarrhea and that was
immediately following surgery. It also happens when I eat the wrong foods
(spinach is one that "cleans me out") but other than that, it's
nice to be rid of the IBS. Good luck. (distal RNY 08/28/01 -100 lbs
gone!!)

Hi, Just wanted to tell you a little about my experience. I had IBS prior
to surgery. I have found that if I stick to the recommended diet, I do
much better. If I eat too many carbs or sugar that's when my IBS seems to
act up now. It is much better than it used to be. Also, drinking milk
post-op has not worked at all for me. I guess Im trying to say that the
problem is still there but when I eat like I should, it is pretty much
under control. Good luck to you!
