Question:
Can we eat Hunt's individual puddings or is that too much sugar? It would be so
convenient for work. When can we eat fresh pears, zucchini or lettuce? I'm 3 weeks post op. — jojo63 (posted on August 22, 2002)

My surgeon & nutritionist don't allow raw fruits and vegetables back
into the diet until the regular diet portion (which is 6-8 weeks or more
post-op). I would think that the Hunt's individual puddings would have
too much sugar. There should be some sugar-free pudding alternative
though...

While the individual snack-pack puddings are convenient, they are high in
sugar, and they also have a lower protein content. Making the s/f pudding
at home with skim milk gives the benefit of the extra protein, without the
extra sugar. Now that they have the disposable containers, they can be just
as convenient as well. As for the fruits and veggies, my surgeon said to
sample when I was ready. The key word is sample. Take a small nibble and
see how it makes you feel. And as always, chew chew chew! Best of luck to
you!

Go easy on items with sugar in them until you know if you can handle
it...some can't and dumping is not pleasant. As for fresh fruits, veggies,
if the veggies are cooked soft, you could handle them now. I tried soft
fruits by week 3-4 and handled it well (cantalope, watermelon, honeydew,
strawberry). Lettuce and crunchy veggies was week 5-6. Start slow-chew
well-eat small bites until you know if your system is OK with it...

Hi. I know that Hunts as well as Jell-o have the convenient packs in
sugar-free because I buy them for my 3 year old. The regular kinds are
packed full of sugar...
