Question:
Did your family loose weight along with you?
I am pre-op, married with four children. I am curious to know if after surgery, and you, yourself are eating smaller portions/healthier choices, did your family loose weight also? I would think if you were doing the cooking, and making wiser choices for yourself, you family will benefit from that too? I would really like to hear your stories! Thanks for your comments. — krystalsolis (posted on August 15, 2002)

I am 3 months out and I have tired to make healthier food choices for my
family, they have cut way back on snacks, eating more fruits and
veggies....however, because I am still on a very limited diet....my cooking
for them has not changed much...it will....once I can eat whatever they
eat...I will be cooking only 1 meal. We have been out to eat a few times
and my husband ends up eating what I have left over....he is worried that
he will gain LOL. We are going on vacation this week, I told the kids and
husband that I was not going to order anything....I would just eat a couple
bites off of each of their plates....that means they have to order what I
want....LOL

My husband started "cutting back" when I had my surgery on
6/11/02. He has currently lost 34lbs and I have lost 45. He however gains
and looses weight very quickly and he is not MO to begin with so he can
play around with dieting.

My first weight loss goal was to weigh less than my husband. He weighed 235
lbs when I had surgery. When I got to 235, we both weighed and he had lost
to 230. When I got to 230, he weighed 225. He is now 220 and I have finally
past him at 218. I have been cooking a lot less (quantity) than I used to,
so he hasn't been eating as much because of that. I also try to make a
point of not offering him my leftovers. I want him to be healthier too. -

Nope. Now that I don't eat everything remotely delicious in the house, my
dh eats it instead!

Nope. My boyfriend and our daughter seem to have gained every pound I have
lost. Our daughter is almost 3 years old and weighs about 22lbs, so she
needs every pound she can get. On the other hand, my boyfriend looks like
he is about 7 months pregnant and cannot stop eating. He eats my leftovers
and more. I tried to cut him back as I have and he just laughs at the
portions that I eat. He says my portions are less than an appetizer for
him.

My family is loosing weight with me. My teen daughter has lost 13 pounds.
My dh and other dd are not very weight concerned, but I believe they are
probably loosing also.
There are no sweets in the house. We have gone from going thru 2+ plus
loaves a bread a week, one loaf with me throwing out a half loaf that is
going stale at the end of the week. We eat fish three times a week, from
where I use to cook it maybe three times a YEAR!!
The lifestyle change here is tremendous and family wide.

I am still pre-op, but I know in the past when I was seriously watching my
fat intak, my son (who was 9 at the time), lost almost 30lbs. just by
eating what I was eating. It all really depends on who is doing the grocery
shopping and the cooking. My husband has a sweet tooth (and never gains an
ounce) so I am sure that he will continue buying a cookie here and there.
But I do most of the cooking and since I will soon be making it all low in
sugar and fat, my family is sure to benefit from it. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

It's just hubby and I, and hubby looks like the cover of Muscle and Fitness
Magazine, so if he gains a few pounds, he stays in the gym a little longer.
However, since surgery, whenever we go out to eat, he has me order
something he likes too so that he can finish my plate. If it wasn't for
the exercising, he would be heavier.

My husband has lost 45 pounds and I have lost 96 pounds in the 5 months
since surgery. He even eats all my leftovers but is still losing. We got
rid of all the junk food, we both eat higher protein and low carbs. He
also joined the gym with me. He is by no means starving he eats as much as
he wants often more then he did before, just better food choices. My
doctor said he might have to start charging him a finders fee.
