Question:
I am 7.5 weeks post op (RNY Open), and still experiencing some pain...

My incision is still tender to the touch. My blouses/shirts rubbing against it drives me crazy. I want to use MEderma but I think I sould wait until the scar is no longer irritable.

And, I still have pain inside in my new tummy area. This seems to be worse when I wear pants/jeans that are snug at the waist. Since I work at a desk, sitting makes the crease at my waist even more uncomfortable for my insides.

Am I just too sensitive or is this normal? Will it get better, I hope? — [Deactivated Member] (posted on August 13, 2002)

I am almost 9 weeks post-op and have been feeling the same way. Last week I was convinced there was something wrong, but catching up on sleep and not overdoing it seemed to fix the pain. I too have aproblem with the desk sitting and car driving is even worse for me. This week I have much less pain than last.

I am 3.5 months post-op (open RNY) and occasionally my clothes rub against my incision. It doesn't "hurt," it's just not comfortable for a moment until I adjust either my clothes or the position I am sitting in. I too have a desk job.

I am 16 months post-op and have discomfort on my incision at times. My surgeon pointed out to me that there is alot of scarring on the inside of your body at the incision site. IT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME FOR YOUR BODY TO HEAL When I was at the 6 wk mark I had to get my incision cut open due to infection. This is common in open rny so ask you dr if the pain becomes daily. Good luck.

Hi, SOrry that your scar is still so sensitive. Talk to your surgeon about it. HE may be able to give you some ideas on desensitizing it.

Hi Lori, <then p then> We had surgery the same day! I get the same feeling when I wear jeans/shorts for too long. At work, I get the pain if I sit too long at my desk. I've gotten into the habit of walking at both breaks and sometimes lunch. It is completely normal. When I don't walk at 1st break especially, I am more uncomfortable. Maybe you should try walking more at work. Good luck! Feel free to email me if you like.

I have not had surgery yet so i cant help any with the internal pain but i can offer my two cents on the scar sensitivity. I had with my last c section i had a 21 inch scar that went from belly button down. For what the longes time my scar was really sensitive anyhting that touched it caused mild discomfort. i tried everything. I found that making sure that the scar didnt get dried out helpped i keept antibiodi ointment spread really thin on mine all the time till all readness was gone from the scar then i switched to just loations. it worked for me dont know i it will for you but thought i would share just in case
