Question:
My surgery was Aug 2, I tried yogurt today and I felt terrible afterwards.
Now I have diarrhea and major grumblings in my stomach. The sugar was 24 g, is that too much? How much sugar should you stay under when looking at labels? — jojo63 (posted on August 11, 2002)

I would say 24 grams at once is too much sugar. I will dump on over 10
grams, so I try to keep things under that. Hugs, Joy

24 grams of sugar is way too much. You were definately dumping. Blue Bunny
has a good "no sugar added" yogurt that I have found at Wal Mart.
Also, Wal Mart's store brand ( Great Value) LIGHT yogurt is good also. I
prefer it to the Blue Bunny brand.

I usually have the dannon or yoplait yogurt. It's something like "fit
n creamy". I can't remember the name exactly.

I could not eat yogurt post op either. I am 16 weeks out and still stay
away from the stuff! I can eat plain yogurt sweetened with splenda and
vanilla extract. I really don't like it, though!

I think 24g is too much. Try light and fit (from Dannon I think). It
tastes pretty good and I don't ever even feel shaky when I eat it. I've
never dumped on sugar, only too much fat, so I couldn't really tell you
what number of grams you should stay under. However, I try to stay away
from simple sugars, and go more with complex sugars. Also, if I'm going to
have something with suger in it, I will have a little protein first, and
that will slow down the absorption of suger into your system. Good luck!

Hi! The dietician who works with my surgeon says to keep the grams of
carbohydrates under 15 in yogurt. The only one I can find that is close is
Dannon 0% fat Light 'n Fit Creamy at 16.

I try to keep the sugar g in the single digit per serving. And that's
another thing. Check the serving size. My first devastating dump was due
to my inability to read the label & do the math. I thought I was
getting 6g of sugar, but I was getting 24!!!!!!! I know, don't ask, I was a
"baby", OK? LOL!

Try light yogurt sweetened with aspartame and fructose, I had my surgery
the same day as yours and eat this type yogurt on a daily basis. I am
avoiding all items with sugars as the one of the first three items on the
label.
