Question:
ANYONE EVER HAD PANCREATITIS?

Hello everyone! I was just wondering if anyone has experienced Pancreatitis as a post op? I am 9.5 months post op and down 152 lbs with 40 left to lose. Two weeks ago I was taken to the hospital with terrible stomach pain and they found I had Pancreatitis which stabilized after 24 hours of NPO. They detected stones and crystals in my Gall Bladder and removed it immediately, and the pain went away with it. Now I have the pain again, not as severe as before as I am not completely keeled over in pain, but none the less, it is there. Any ideas? I am calling my doctor if it doesn't subside soon (I am hoping maybe its just gas!).Any input at all would be greatly appreciated.    — Alli B. (posted on August 7, 2002)

You might have pancreatitus again from the gall bladder surgery. Pancreatitus can be caused from any abdominal surgery. It's detected by a blood test I think. I would call your doctor and have him check you out again.

You may have a stone or stones in your common bile duct. They can usually check for this w/a radiology test. Please let your doctor know what your symptoms are. It would be best to get control over it before it is a full blown infection/inflammation. Best wishes!

I'll be interested to see what others post about this. I thought I had pancreatitis after my gallbladder came out on 5/14/02, because me pain continued as well. It's been 2 1/2 months since then, and I'm STILL in constant pain. ALL of my tests have come back normal, so my only other thought is scar tissue. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. I have it all written in my profile if you are interested.

Yes. The blood test is called AMAYLASE (SP?) I had a panni two months ago. Got the all clear on my post-op from my wls who did the surgery. Had some stomach pain & saw my local PCP, who sent me to the lab for a work up. I had "acute Pancreatitis." He put me on an additional stomach med & I just had the lab test again yesterday (3 weeks after initial diagnosis) and I am within normal limits. Don't fool around with it tho....many people are hospitalized with pancreatitis & on IV's and IV meds to get over it. I just kept in touch with my PCP on the local level and managed to luck out.

I am 2 months post-op, down 70 lbs and was diagnosed with Acute Pancreatitis Saturday. I had been sick for 6 weeks and been told that my illness was in my head. They diagnosed me with an ulcer last week, sent me home still ill and then discovered the Acute Pancreatitis after I suffered a mild stroke 2 days later. I was just released from the hospital last night. It has been a nightmare. I can't sleep at night and i'm in constant pain.
