Question:
Is grapefruit juice okay to drink in the morning post op RNY?
I was just wondering if grapefruit juice is okay to drink in the morning post-op RNY? Is there too much natural sugars or calories for us? — Allison T. (posted on August 4, 2002)

I tend to think that GF juuice is too high in sugars, even the unsweetened
ones. Check the label and if you can drink the 4 oz and get single digit
sugar g, it might be OK. The only thing I'd worry about is the acid. Are
you talking first thing, on empty? Ask your doc about that one. When I
read your question, my pouch HURT! Ow.

I could successfully eat grapefruits (never tried straight "grapefruit

I have really been craving grapefruit and I put alot of artifical sugar on
it. The sweeter the better. And I can't seem to get enough of anything that
is grapefruit flavor. Weird as although I've never hated grapefruit, but
neither was I very fond of it pre op. You are around 4 months post op (I
think). Sure seems like it would be safe. So far I've never had a problem
with sugars in fruit. So just try alittle at first to be sure. Seems like a
healthy way to start the day.

once your healed up good it shouldnt be a problem except the calories in
juices can slow the loss.<P> Better to eat real grapefruit, its
somehat filling and yummy with splendsa. I had some tonight. Be warned the
small jars bottles of some juices have lots of added sugar and thus more
calories. cCitrus before a couple months isnt a good idea the acid can be
tough on your new tummy.
