Question:
Does the surgeon write the letter of medical necessity or does the PCP
I am wondering if I need to get my letter of medical necessity from my PCP or if the surgeon writes it? Does anyone know? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you. — Kate M. (posted on July 31, 2002)

Hi Kate! I got my letter of medical necessity from my PCP since he is the
one who knows my medical history/medical state moreso than my surgeon did.
Best of luck to you!

Kate, I went to my surgeon with a letter of medical necessity from my PCP
and my OB/GYN. These, along with my surgeons notes were sent to the
insurance. I had approval in less than a week. Best of Luck!

Kate,
I had my PCP, OBGYN, Enroconolgist, foot doctor, employer, immediate family
all write letters to the insurance company. i gave them to the surgeon and
he handed them into the insurance company. along with his letter and, the
nutritionist and the psych evaluation. needless to say it was like 45
pages. I was approved in no time
