Question:
What is a good mixed drink to order when out that wont cause dumping?
I am just getting to b more social and people have been asking me to come out now. Not because I'm thinner but because now I have the confidence to go out. So many drinks contain fruit juice which I can't drink yet and beer is too heavy sometimes. Wine has a lot of sugar right? What is everyone else out there sipping on? — Janice P. Bacardi and Diet Coke w/lime. I let it sit so it's not too fizzy or too
strong, by the time I get to it's a little watered down and I generally
never finish it! 1-2 sips is all it takes!

OK...first the standard statement - only drink occasionally - because of
the bypass, alcohol isn't broken down before the liver absorbs it, so you
can do some serious liver damage if you regularly drink - with that said,
every now and then when I go out, I have found that I have no problems with
a Cosmopolitan, which is basically a vodka martini with a splash of
cranberry juice and lime. I usually drink only one, maybe two if we're
there awhile, and I have a glass of water along with it because I get drunk
off of it too quick if I don't. My friends call me a cheap and easy date
because I don't eat much and it only takes a drink for me to be drunk!
Enjoy!

Anytime I go out I order club soda with a wedge of lemon or lime. I was
doing this before surgery because I choose not to drink alcohol of any
sort. When I first adopted this lifestyle I got some flack from friends
because I wasn't drinking anything at all. Once I started drinking the
water and they saw there was a piece of fruit in it, they left me alone. I
never have been one to let peer pressure rule me but I felt more like the
crowd while at a club if I had at least something in my hand. Oh sometimes
I would drink SF tea in a short glass - looks just like whiskey. Good
luck.

At 2 months post-op I had my first drink, a shot of Tequila! It was great.
I get drunk much quicker than before but I never drank much before surgery
because it didn't agree with me. Now, I drink and it doen't bother me at
all. Tequila and Vodka have no sugars and should not cause dumping but
they are considered "the hard stuff." Experiment but I would
stay away from mixed drinks all together.

I make my own Grasshoppers. You need Creme De Menthe and Creme De Coca and
milk. I like mine weak as it's the flavor I like and not the booze. I drink
it at home so I don't get into any problems. I've only had one since WLS
and had no problems.

I usually have wine when I go out with friends. I find that alcohol like
Vodka and Gin and Tequila are VERY hard on my pouch and BURN! While in Key
West, I did have frozen daquaris at Fat Tuesday and had zero problem with
them...you just have to be careful with the fact that you will get DRUNK
much quicker. I get a strong buzz on 1/2 glass of wine. So be careful if
you are the one driving!

Ive gone out a few times. I ordered straight tomato juice on ice. It's a
very SAFE drink if you are driving.

I started drinking wine about 4 weeks post op with no problems. Someone
told me that wine isnt as sugary as you would think....they just use sugar
in the fermentation process (but I'm not sure if thats true). Anyway, I
can have 3 glasses of White Zinfandel in 2 hours with no probs! THat's
what I drink at all work gatherings.
