Question:
Anyone 5 feet 5 inches

I was wondering if any postops are less than 5'5" and under 250 pounds when they had WLS. How was your rate of weight loss, and what was your personal goal? Thanks    — Grace H. (posted on July 25, 2002)

I'm 5'2 and started out at 248. Surgery was on 11/5/01 and I lost about 45 pounds in the first 8 weeks. After that, it was 3 pounds a week for about 3 months. Since then, it's slowed considerably. About 6 pounds a month at best. My personal goal is 128 and I'm 15 pounds away from it.

I am 5'5 and weighed 256 before LAP RNY surgery on 1/31/02. I have lost 80 pounds and want to lose 25 more to be at 150. If you look at my profile http://obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/profile.phtml?N=H1006221708&Z=940 it gives my weight loss by month. I hope this helps!

Hi Grace, I am 5'5".5 and started at 245. I checked your profile and it was my back problems that encouraged me to check into WLS. I have good news for you, my back is sooo much better! I am almost 9 months post-op, down 86 lbs. You can see my progress by date on the bottom of my profile page. I hope it helps.

5'3", started at 249. 6 months later, am 70 pounds lighter. Goal is 39 more pounds. I've seen others that have lost between 50 and 90 at 6 months post-op and approx my weight/size, so I'm comfortable being in the middle of that. But the loss has slowed considerably, as expected. Thats OK, as long as it continues to go down!

I am 5'1" and my starting weight was 211. At 6 months post op I am down to 134. The BMI chart says my ideal weight is 122 but I hope to go to 110. I lose about 1 pound every 4 days so I hope to make this goal by Christmas.

I'm 5'4". My starting weight was 263. I had surgery on Jan. 9, 2002. I have lost 85 pounds so far with about 35 to reach my pesonal goal. Just remember, everyone loses differently.

I am 5'5" and weighed 238 the morning of surgery (May 28, 2002). I lost 16 pounds the first two weeks after surgery; 11 more pounds the the four weeks following. I am now eight weeks out and have lost about 6 more pounds (I have reached a dreaded plateau). So total, I have lost 33 pounds. I was told by my doctor that my weight loss would be slower because I was a "light weight" (haha -imagine that). You have to remember though that each person is definitely an INDIVIDUAL when it comes to weight loss. Your experience probably will differ totally from the folks who answer your question. I only have a before picture posted on my site, but feel free to check it out. Good luck to you!
